Hong Kong Tree Climber Badly Hurt

This same clip is all is the video section with a whole ton of other opinions as to what actually went wrong. Bottom line is it was bad from the start and ended worse! Glad he's alive.

    Escalator for wrenching your thoughts

Mark, Why basal vs canopy in your opinion? (which I highly value!) More line in system? No "hot spot" or tight bend radius at canopy anchor? (depending on method used). Im sure I can think of a million reasons but wondering what you had in mind? I gota get to work................ Ben

    Escalator for wrenching your thoughts

Thanks Mark for getting right on top of this. This is what I have thought, if you keep slack out of the system then its a non issue. If you are going to put yourself in the position to take a giant whipper then this is not a great choice. Thanks again for looking into it so quick.

    Go to pulley

We have both the pinto rig and now just got the omni. They are both so useful but I do like the mid line attachment of the omni. Either way they both fit in your pocket and are perfect for light duty stuff!

    Buntline or anchor knot

Scaffold, so nice and clean as the tail goes up parallel. It's great on a biner because you can slip it off and untie easily after its been loaded. The only advantage of the anchor is it isn;t quite as bulky and works a little better with a hitch climber set up. For the hitch climber Ddrt...

    Escalator for wrenching your thoughts

I like the armor prus because of its suppleness and its durability. Im 168lbs (no gear). On an wrench set up you really have to go shorter cord with a VT if you uses less wraps or braids. Any slack or straight legs make sit not smooth. Good luck!

    Escalator for wrenching your thoughts

I just started wrenching on in. I lOVE IT! It has so little stretch and runs great through hardware. I use a hitch climber, an Ocean's tether, and a 28" armor-prus sewn eye. 4 wrap, 2 braid VT. Works like a charm! I love how supple the Armor prus is and it runs great! My 2 cents....

    Almost

Thanks for posting this Ryan! A good reminder for us all to feel, listen and look at every connection! And a good reminder that mistakes can happen to the very best of climbers. This will be our safety meeting this morning before work. Glad your ok buddy!

    Lanyard

I put a rated oval screw link in the spiced eye of my CE and attach an aluminum rope snap to that. I like it a lot more than a biner for the constant clipping and unclipping. But the versatility of a CE type lanyard is amazing. Great to have a deployable single line second tie in ready and...

    Lifting Logs with Bucket

To be clear, I was talking about branches not logs. I was referring to small branches that you would/could cut with a handsaw and throw. I would never myself or allow any of my guys to load the boom with a branch they couldn't comfortably hold with one hand and throw into a specific DZ.

    Lifting Logs with Bucket

It kind of depends what we are talking about here for pick weights. If your bucket is rated for 300lbs and your operator weighs 200 including all his gear, saw, etc then would swinging over a small branch (with absolutely no shock load) be a big deal? No, probably not. Would taking a 200 lb...
