Welcome, tree friend! Sharing your climbing tech, good stuff.
Grigri in a RADS system will get you there if you are just seeking height. Working a tree with one can get challenging as positioning for canopy work is quite different from the needs of rock guiding/belay. Not saying it wont work...
Right, I think that's a thread theme. Do what makes the most sense for your situation. If you spend most of your time pruning with the occasional removal there is no need to mess with a massive grapple truck!
And as for working by yourself, theres no right or wrong way cuz you only have what...
Man I hate hashing up brush in a truck or trailer. I had both today, almost filled up and it is so painful. The chipper broke down yesterday, which is a huge bummer because that is such a better process for me and my crew! Plus the chipper winch is so clutch. My crew is one of two and the other...
Hook your boot under lead and step up on footy, advance system by hand. Without open air, this will pin your foot underneath stem with minimal effort and fairly gentle force on ankle depending on footwear. Angles make or break this move, and device tending is on a diverging path from your...
On SRT I will put my rope in footy and brace footy underneath wood or hook it around the outside, opposite the tip. Always been able to make a good secure step up like this until you reach harder rope angles, then the lanyard leg push takes over.
I am on my 2nd soles with 8" Chippewas. Before I got them, i always had plain hiking shoes, including all leather Asolos which are heavier backpacking boots.
The logging style boots are designed for spike climbing. The heel, sole shanks and construction contribute to comfort on spurs.
Cant...
When the rope gets clipped back onto the bridge next to the RR it usually lines up with the gap between the plates of the 'bird' or top arm lever of the device. Rope wedges into gap during descent and interferes with bird going back up when you want to stop unless you can configure a little bit...
No problems as an access/ascent system. Lanyard needs a stopper obviously. And you should have something that is fairly easy and quick to deploy mid air for rapid descent.
Sean is thinking through a whole process and for good reason. You top out your FL then need free gear to secure a switch...
Most rope makers have 6 or 7mm accessory cordage that will work fine for pulling down an anchor. Go up to 8 or 9 and you might even be able to put it in an ascender for those "come on now, out of the tree," moments.
Or take the horizontal span and clip it in the biner.
I have built this anchor between 2 skinny tops before with a biner and butterfly, clipping the butterfly, middle span and splice all together. Fits fine in one biner! It's a little tricky to measure out legs, but you can get pretty close to...
Arbor gore? I'm sure some folks wont mind sharing. I snapped my arm once under a clogged chipper chute that pulled me off balance while I was holding it upright.
Awakenings forum has oodles of this stuff. Welcome to the buzz!
Oouughoh. I just caught a whiff of something...
Like...the stench of stubborn debate about mandating 2 climbing systems, but hiding underneath a tart, pungent discussion of manufacturing and design standards of climbing devices.
My serious comment:
I like both safety minded gear design and...
Good way to learn this lesson! Sometimes it's when you are throwing branches into your clear DZ and your dangles grab it and drop it on the roof/lights/expensive target/baby stroller.
I think it's okay as an escape. Keeping an eye on the biner gate for rubbing opening. Or side loading issues. But you cant descend to your next cut and retrieve.
You might try a running bowline, leaving the biner in the splice then clipping a bight of your tail in it. After descending tug...
Dont forget to watch all the fails you can. It is arguably more important to know what mistakes can be made. Especially by the guys that are good enough to have big YT channels!
I am all for viewing as many hours of tree work as tolerable. It will teach you what skills, luck and failure look...
I'm getting back together with my trainer. He has opened his own gym now, and I'm giving up my denial of being an athlete! Plus I think I need more friends...muscular friends?
Happy new gear, I mean year!
Guys, I never claimed righteous power to imprison anyone. Or moral authority. I can see how public measures are over bearing, if you consider the people willing to take the risk. Go take the risk! Be free!
BUT RECOGNIZE
It's not just individual risk, isolated to your own body. Vulnerable...
If she were my mother I would want every protection possible put in place to stop her from getting infected. So she could meet those grandchildren without risking her life in the near future. I hope nobody gives her covid!
I can understand yelling and cursing under the stress of significant injury, but draw the line at blaming they guy that wasn't there!
I also feel compelled to get inside the mind of the climber before hand and point out clear warning signs that others can learn to recognize and identify in...
