    quick splicing question

    Standard splice even on quite dirty climb line really isn't so bad. Can use KY or dish soap to help things move a little better, clean it beforehand like Z said. 4 trees worth of use, id call that a pretty dang new rope I've never seen the modified splice though.

    If the client is a friend, and he trusts you, just give him an hourly rate. 60 bucks and hour (or so) saves him money and covers your nut. Everyone wins. Just tell him " looks like it should take 4-6 hrs etc " round it to the nearest 15 min, and all good.

    Glad to know I'm not the only idiot! The guy I worked w yesterday suggested that if a sub was hurt on a job and didn't have comp, the primary contractors comp would kick in. No one in my area that I've spoken to carries it either, just something I hadn't considered.

    I use the ddrt on the tail quite often and don't find it to be that annoying advancing in large firs or just traveling spans between leaders. I usually pull 20-30 ft or so of slack into my srt system and lock it to the carabiner with a slip knot. Don't have to fight gravity for a while.
