When you've pulled the core out and marked it up towards the "alpine" butterfly end, mark up 4 inches or so from the end, the core is braided from bunches of 4 strands. If you remove 2 strands from the 4" mark and then rotate the core and repeat a couple of times towards the end you still keep...

Ah, my mistake. I'm not stuck on any splices. What measurements are you using for a locking brummel eye to eye out of interest? Got some 8mm beeline that I was going to make a hitch cord out of. Do you aim to cross the tails over?
