    Safety Incentive Program

I have never seen an incentive program, but I have also never felt great about working with guys that keep hitting the ground with the saws, or damaging the machines being careless. I would certainly love a bonus for not being an asshole, but when I think about working with guys who don't earn...

DIY Tree Squeeze - Share your ideas

True, but I generally don't climb for other companies anymore, so I'll do what I like. I feel plenty safe doing it with a steel carabiner with a rated gate. If they can handle rigging with them the way I have, then they can handle me swinging around on them. Obviously separate rigging and life...

Yea, so same same here, but we get a lot of tall conifers like that around here, and often enough the good branches to throw in to are nowhere near the top. I was trying to get smooth using an AFS but it just doesn't flip up like a steel core. That said, I think to answer the original question...

I get that for the first half of the job, on the way up, but what about trees over 100' to the TIP? how long will you spend, on average, to get a TIP set up there, and what do you do to be quick and smooth on the way down? I can set a line 160' up, but like 27RMTON said, sometimes there ain't...

I never really looked into it, and never knew anyone that had one, but that does sound super useful in our envronment. I would probably get one today if I were still climbing daily.

Root Collar Excavation/ Stem-girdling Root Pruning thread

The cost of the rental is what it is until I can buy the compressor. I understand it will cost me some small jobs early on, but like I said, it is what it is.

Air spade has been number one on my list of "what tool should I get next" for a year or so now. I think I will be the first company with one in my home county if I can make it happen soon enough.

    Today....

Having taken a few falls from limb failures, I can attest to how surreal that moment is. Time seems to slow down so extremely that you'd swear you had time to consider what might be about to happen, but when I look at the total distance, it seems impossible to think all that in such a brief instant.

What would you call this cut?

The WyBy method definitely looks like a creative option when it's really hard to get on the face side of a big head leaner. I can see it saving a bit of time and headache in the right circumstances.

    Shagbark Hickory preservation

I didn't want to be that guy, but as a micro operator with minimal equipment, I would haul the dirt away in a wheelbarrow by myself if I was allowed that time. I would hate to see any equipment driven in there again.

Boomslang / Matt Herder support his family

It's so hard to compare, and I hope none of has to know exactly what that difference is

    Trailer hitch carried sprayer?

It's a lot easier to justify the time, cost, and effort to fab it up when there isn't something like it that's readily available. Probably beats have someone else fab one for you at least

    Trailer hitch carried sprayer?

I'm gonna see if I can't figure out some kind of more portable situation like that. That is super cool.

    Lightweight saw pants

I sweat like it's my job, so I end up doing that to every pair of pants, no matter what.

    PNW get together

Hahaha! I just realized that I should clarify, since we are talking PNW, that I mean Oroville, CA as opposed to the only other Oroville I know which happens to be in WA!

    Shagbark Hickory preservation

I endorse your plan. Also, see if you can find a local source of high quality compost or worm castings. Don't buy the shit in plastic bags, as that is starved of O2 and very much compromised. It will almost certainly be very expensive, but you just need about a bucket worth, though make sure...

What would you call this cut?

I would think it better to use both of the remaining straps by making the back cut perpendicular to the original bore?

    Lightweight saw pants

the thumbnail just shows black! I never looked closer at that option, thank you! Hopefully they still make those when I need a new set, but I am not getting much saw time these days.
