    Today....

They are dominating the understory, in the areas I frequent (southern/central adks) and similar elsewhere from what I've gathered. Rough state of affairs indeed. Not sure what the management strategy is, if there is one. I have a contact who is a NYS DEC forester in my area. I'll remember to...

    Today....

I generally feel the same way, but in this case it was smashing into an over abundance of beech saplings, in an area that had previously been logged. Good tree for wildlife, shit for timber value, which is a long term goal here.

    Today....

Another eastern white pine removal.. I probably spend more time in these than any other tree. Most are no cleanup at least. Customer was cool with the collateral damage into the woods. Look close and you'll see me

The Industry of urban wood waste

I was gifted a copy last year. A great reference worth adding to any arb's library.

The Industry of urban wood waste

A company I previously worked for tried to make use of what tree byproducts we could. Hardwood firewood was sold/delivered either log length or split. We would deliver chips for a fee, either directly from the jobsite if we had a close buyer, or from the shop/logyard. Locust was saved and sold...

    Close Call Today

Fortunately, my climb line didn't fall through my climbing device (BDB) after the cut, and I had plenty of length left. I pulled line through and tied an alpine butterfly, and cinched to the trunk with a quickie that rides on my saddle for a retrievable canopy anchor. Honestly I'm not sure...

    Close Call Today

Swallowing my pride to share this, as yet another reminder to slow down and not become complacent. This morning I was about 45' up pruning out some storm damaged limbs for a friend. SRS base tie. All was going well, until I went to make a nice finish cut at the branch collar, I cut through the...

    Echo 2511 Muffler Mod:

I have a ported 2511T, which came from the builder with a hole drilled in the muffler and a pipe extension welded on. 1/4 pitch as well. I recently added the Egan pipe and retuned the carb. I was pleasantly surprised with how much it gained. Certainly not quiet though. I also bought an Egan...

Ground elk taco salad. Store bought taco seasoning packets call for 3/4 cup of water. I used this Madeira instead. Beef broth/stock is a good alternative as well.

    Rigging down logs stance

I don't rig logs too often, but when I do I try be off to the side if it's practical. Less of a ride in my experience if they don't run smoothly.

    Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey

I think, from my very limited understanding, is that as long as it's properly sealed it won't continue to ferment. Not really sure though!

    Best Rake

I noticed the same, but generally only when I was being aggressive with heavy stump grindings. I share your thoughts on the groundskeeper in the snow.
