    Broken man, extreme burnout

Yo Leroy. Yes it is a Jubilee in my neighborhood. This is the first devastating May snow storm in a bunch of years. I broke my pole saw knocking snow out of my 20 year old horsechestnut at sunrise yesterday. Luckily my wife went on a run to the local saw shop for the $450 replacement...

    Stump Cut Troubles

I usually bore cut to the middle. I keep the bar in the cut and work around the stump. Not to brag, but I usually have too short of a bar and half-dull chain making a straight cut not happening

    RIP

Thank you for the post. I am happy to put a name to a face who helped to propel my career. In 2000, at the Charlotte ISA conference, Deb was answering my questions at the Arbormasters booth. After a pleasant exchange, she suggested that I put my business card into a bucket to enter a...

    Throw bag-line accuracy issues

I throw my first throwline with my right hand no knot. Usually trying to throw over the TIP in the branches above. I pull back the line to drop the ball/line next to the TIP and to the ground. Add a second ball and throwline raising it over the TIP and back to the ground. Detach both balls...

Tree related work you shouldn't need insurance for?

I have had a liability insurance program for over 20 years. Me and the client are protected against ruinous financial loss if something damaging occurs. I have never carried workman's compensation insurance for myself, and have lost one job a few years ago when I didn't have employees so no...

The Art and Science of Practical Rigging VHS Box Set!

Your post is bringing back memories. One weekend in 2003, I spent a weekend rewatching the video series instead of hiking with my dog in the mountains above Lyons as we had been doing all summer. She didn't appreciate the change and when I returned from work on Monday, the videos were spread...

    Toro STX-38 stump grinder...any good?

I like this machine and have used it for some big stumps. I rent it as well as the smaller 26hp often. They both come with Greenteeth. The mechanic at the rental shop complains that it is a pain to repair, but I have only had one hydraulic failure on site

2013 bandit 75xp bad jamming problem behind feeding wheel

Low pressure will cause auto feed function to not work. Sounds like it is feeding faster than it can chip. Full stems of old shrubs are super dense

2013 bandit 75xp bad jamming problem behind feeding wheel

If you have checked the knives and they are ok, slow the feed wheel speed on stringy shrub materials. I push knives past dull and a couple hundred bucks for a new set usually fixes my troubles

    Burning out

Levi, the first few 100° days can vaporize my will to do tree work for yet another summer. After dodging lightning and hail storms the last few weeks, we could all use a pep talk. No good answer for annoying clients of course. The older folks around here seem to be having a hard time...

Let’s talk about hook lift trucks

In the meantime, you might consider a rolloff trailer. I owned a Nedland Industries 14,000 lbs rolloff trailer for a few years. Pulled with a f450 and the gooseneck made it pretty versatile. Like a hooklift container, you can't beat loading wood at ground level
