Two layers of chafe guard. Sewn eye-to-eye sling is placed inside first layer, ends sewn shut, lockstitched to the rope sling and holes melted through it where the tight eyes are, using a soldering iron. Second layer is sewn to first, hardware installed and then it is sewn to the first layer.
This one is another variant that can be installed/retieved from the ground. I made two of these. Double layer chafe guard and no problem with the ends of the Cordura tubing catching on the bark in a crotch. Can attach an SRT line to the small ring with a carabiner, or an Omni-Block 1.5" swivel pulley for DdRT system. Using the stainless steel shackles to attach the rings prevents the tight eyes of the internal rope sling from ever seeing sunlight or getting beat up during installation and retrieval. This one is built like a tank, but lighter than the original ugly beast of a prototype. It is still heavy enough to blast it in and out of any crotch that tries to ruin your day. I choose the TIP carefully to avoid it hanging up, but so far I've either gotten it set with a few hard jerks, or else it wouldn't fit and I lowered it back down and picked a different TIP. So far, if I can get it installed, I can get it back down.
