Bandit Chipper possible options - and why.

I understand wanting told on the chipper, but they are no more used for chipping than tarps, chainsaws, fuel containers, etc are intrinsically part of the chipper. Road cons are used with the chipper, but not for the chipper.

I have cones, chocks, arbor trolley, and occasionally a gas can in the tongue tray or feed chute.
I don’t think dot officers care if it’s not registered equipment in transit. Basically all semantics on that end
If we had a commercial trailer tag we could load all sorts of tools on it without issue from my understanding from conversation with a dot cop on a stop one time, so take with grain of salt. May not see them much but when I do it’s a time sink

Great thread! I wish my 1390 was outfitted with the adjustable chute. My current chip truck has a kind of low roof chip box. So I can either buy the adj. chute kit from Bandit for $2600 or mod the chip box. I'll probably do the latter since it has the added benefit of more chip capacity.

I see some of these large boys 21xps up they have the kelsa I think is the name loader grapples on for feeding! I think that would be cool option even on an 18 xp size
I really wish bandit would organize thier winch system to be more appropriate for machine feeding and have it be out of the way until needed. We rarely use our winch but I’ve done so magical things with a winch on the chipper that make that a very good option to keep

That Tesla loader would be handy on a smaller chipper, but it is a very heavy option. I think it adds something like 8000 pounds to the 21XP.

A folding wench would be a great thing to have, one of the local tree services here has made a retrofit for theirs. I plan to do the same one day, just haven’t got around to it yet. I have a design in my head, I just need to build.

Most require a subscription and rely on cell signal for tracking.
Apple makes Itags, that rely on someone with a iPhone passing by the tag for tracking. But I think it sends a notification to the phone near by, as it’s been used to stalk people.
There is some company selling AirTag size and appearance devices that do not notify the perpetrators phone he is being tracked.

I fully agree on hydraulic chute rotation. It was another option my salesman urged me to get. I thought we were fine with manual rotation but no, hydraulic is far superior and basically free of cost given its ROI.
Everybody seems into this but I’ve got a question. Can you turn the chute to face backwards if you have this feature? When driving we have our crew turn the chute backwards on one of our chippers as they have damaged it by hitting the truck with it during sharp turns/backing up a few times. One of our chippers is a Bandit 254 with hydraulic rotate and it can only turn the chute 90 degrees.

I too really wish that there was a folding winch option. We use our winch maybe 5 times a year but on some jobs give it a love tap with the loader a few times. I replace more hydraulic hoses on our grapple because of people hitting the winch than any other cause.

One of my friends in Portland has Verizon trackers on every truck and piece of equipment he owns. They like being able to see exactly where everything is. One time his dump trailer was stolen and he was able to strong arm the local PD to help him recover it by showing them exactly where it was. He told them he was going to go get it but they told him not to especially once they saw where it was. It was a known drug den they were very familiar with.

Yes, the chute rotates continuously with the hydraulic rotation option.

We’ve hit winches many times with grapples, it happens. We keep hoses shrouded to prevent damage, I’ve never seen a hose break from hitting the chipper winch. I agree though, making it fold would be nice.

Cops, like most of us, like success. Showing them you can locate and track a stolen item will be far more interesting to them than, "Hey my equipment was stolen, will you locate it and retrieve it." Unfortunately some sales job may well still be required.

When I think about hauling an extra truck trailer and loader to process debris I’m setting down behind the chipper with the grapplesaw on quite a few jobs I’m able to do the thought of that loader arm on back of chipper even at that sort of extra weight starts to look more appealing to me.

It's always interesting (and not really surprising) to me how different peoples use-cases are for equipment. For me, the winch on my 12XP is the best thing I've ever bought and sometimes use it for hours at a time, multiple days a week. Much of my work is in spaces or slopes where you just can't use equipment to move material, and the winch is just there, all the time, ready to go.
