I have a set like that. Heavy to work with, but they bite in and are much more durable for chunky picks than the nylon slings we use for brushing the tree and smaller logs.

I remember you posted a pic of them somewhere and I was intrigued . Yours were made by a local guy to you Indiana I believe it was.
I like how when I lay the log over they self orient to the top of the piece, for easy unhooking , as it rotated to land flat. When I have to pull the thimble under and out from the load it seems pretty tough like it will endure some years of solid duty cycles dragging out from underlogs on various sub surfaces. Not as tough as chain obviously, but usually we can get a loader on the piece as it comes down to lift it off the rigging. So I’m not too concerned I’ll beat them up too quickly. Glad to have added them to the arsenal!

That's correct, I had mine made here in Evansville Indiana. I'm glad you like them. I don't break them out often, but its great to have them when they are needed.

If it’s a relatively straight up spar we’ve been using them for every wood pic cause they’re so simple and quick for that.

I've used the Gunnebo GrabIQ for quite a few years now. Really like them. I was spiking some numbers on the crane file and narrowed it down to dragging the hooks out from under the logs I put down. I adjusted the procedure and the spikes went away. Remember, your computer reads spikes in hydraulic pressure in 10ths of a second so when you drags those hooks out from under you are adding up points on the back box inside the computer. I don;t drag them anymore. I'll have somebody cut me some branch wood and not chip it so I can put the log down on that and leave a gap. I do like chains. I got the idea from Paul Cox about 10 years or so ago.

I stayed far away for the limb picks to give open landing not far to the side and give ground crew process space
Then the amazing part is how easy that little crane can maneuver in through the tight side yard to within a close radius for some good sized log picks
I work with some real dogs sometimes lol

My friend bought a bucket truck and during transport the transporter hit a bridge with knuckle on the boom rendering in unsafe for use. So my poor friend got beat bad for that deal to the tune of 20k
I helped him lift the boom , headache rack and tool box off as he wants to turn it into a hook lift or bigger chip truck

It’s been sitting for a couple years now if you couldn’t tell! I forget the whole story..
I gotta ask him how the hell he didn’t have insurance on something like that on the Transporter?! Why he had to absorb the cost ? Not the guy who hit the bridge. Either way beat shitty on that deal for him
That is extremely unfortunate. No recourse?

So far he’s just been eating it!
I’m gonna ask him exactly what happened again and I’ll report back ! It’s sparked my interest again. I feel really bad for him
But the good that came out of it.. He ended up getting beciase obviously he needed a lift and instead of truck mount solid boom went with tracked easy lift telescope boom 70/36aj and has been super happy with that decision.

I think it just became a back burner burden after that all went down
He’s doing okay now hence moving forward with the idea to revamp the truck
I’m pushing him for the hook lift just so I can be a part of helping set that up with him. He already has a 40 yard chip truck and some other small log and support rigs.. hook lift brings that versatility to be or not to be that is the quest son lmao

I’m glad you’re keeping that truck busy. I sure hope you’re doing some good old fashioned tree climbing a couple days a week or so.
