And the "bunches of people behind bars" only stayed behind bars until a few days into tRump's second term when full pardons were issued to every one of them.

This whole deal really is getting crazy. I've always been a fairly non political person, never had a real big take on any of the presidents from Nixon onward. But this current prez is fully off the rails and into uncharted territory. I started a list of articles to keep track of the major examples of his poor results and behavior and it must have 50 entries and counting.

I do not agree @cory. The riot could only have happened because it was allowed to happen. The crowds mood and movements were open and obvious. Do you really believe that the White House couldn't have protected itself from an unarmed crowd given the time it had to prepare?

Of course it was allowed to happen. Initially there was no legal reason to stop it. If it had remained peaceful, it was perfectly legal to assemble, just like the protests in LA were completely legal until some bad actors started looting and torched some cars, threw rocks, etc. But you still seem to be OK with the fact that the entire 6th January thing was egged on and basically caused by Trump with his 'Stop the Steal' lie and his insistence that Pence help overturn a legitimate election. This was basic textbook insurrection and if the spineless GOP were not terrified of his fanatic base with their death threats, he would never have been allowed to run again.

A small edit: it was not the White House that was attacked and you must have forgotten that not everyone in that crowd was unarmed. There were all sorts of clubs, pepper spray, flag poles, etc. used as weapons, with tons of footage to prove it, and there were certainly various Proud Boys and such who were armed with more serious stuff (which thank goodness they did not have the guts to use).

LOL, the irony of that song passed right over Taco's head. Just watched a bunch of the footage of it all. Pretty lame, considering how tRump was hyping it up. Best part was the historic uniforms from various periods. But most of the troops in modern dress looked less than happy to be there, and were just ambling along with no attempt to be in step or look smart at all. Here is what a parade looks like when troops are really proud of what they are doing. Notice towards the end, even the horses themselves are almost in step:
 
You guys need to stop listening to cheerleaders of political ideologies masquerading as news outlets that only say what you want to hear. That is not the path to truth.

I used the words White House as an entity, not a location. The pitiful weaponry displayed was certainly enough to cause harm but not enough to achieve anything like it did if precautions had been in place. It was obvious to you, why not them?

The concept of intelligent people who are tRump supporters is a curious one, I can't figure it out.

And somehow this comes to mind

What I mean is, we can't loose sight of the fact that Trump himself is not actually the problem. He is simply a trigger for a problem that already existed. A shamefully large chunk of this nation's population is just like him, uneducated, selfish, and bigoted. He totally resonates with them, even to the extent of outright hero worship, as a shining example of success and power, as someone like them who finally came along to represents their interests. One of the best quotes I have seen lately:
"Trump is a poor person's idea of a rich man, a weak person's idea of a strong man, and a stupid person's idea of a smart man."

Can you explain in clear terms, without the word salad Rico aludes to, why you think Trump bears no responsibility for what happened on Jan6 and why you don't believe the intent of the rioters that day was to stop the certification of the election? Your path to the 'truth' seems rather curious. There is endless video of Trump going on and on about non-existent massive nation-wide voter fraud, the election being stolen from him, and the need to fight, fight, fight. There is clear video of his speech tellng them to march on the capitol that day to 'stop the steal'. There is video and testimony from his own staff of him calmly watching the violence on TV, completely unconcerned to do anything to stop it, violence easily as dramatic as that happening in LA that he is suddenly so concerned over. This is violence which included tens of thousands of dollars damage to one of the most important buiildings in our democracy, a woman being shot to death in its defence, dozens of police officers critically injured, the vice president's life threatened, etc. Can you enlighten us as to what we are missing here?

Jees, just watched more footage of tRump's military parade. How embarrassing and disappointing for our troops. The stands were half empty in most places and a number of people have pointed out that a lot of the onlookers were simply the relatives and families of the soldiers in the parade. There is video of the Orange Arsehole himself nodding off and having trouble staying awake. The taxpayers footed $40-something million, and also had veterans' benefits cut, so the draft-dodger-in-chief can get bored and have a nap? But on the upside, the same day at least 11 to 12 million marched in about 2000 large cities and far more smaller communities, against what is happening to our nation and to show a worried World that there is hope for stopping this country's slide towards fascisim. And very few of these nearly countless small communities are even included in the estimates. There is abundant drone footage all over the internet. These are far greater numbers than we even saw in the big anti-war protests during the Vietnam years. In case anyone has missed this point, these were literally the largest and most widespread street demonstrations of resistance by ordinary Americans the nation has ever seen, and all this barely into tRump's second term. It beggars belief how any sane or intelligent person would see this as an indication of a successful or popular president or that he is 'making America great again'.

Why do you find it arrogant for Cory to express his honest puzzling over this? Of course, what Cory has overlooked is that, just because a person is intelligent, does not mean that person is not racist to some degree, nationalistic and isolationist in sentiment, self-serving, and possibly even a total hypocrite and arsehole. The GOP is full of such people and there are even occasional Democrats. In general American politics does not encourage or reward the positive virtues.
