I had to comment!

There are lots of 'textbook' things that can be more dangerous than breaking some rules. The difference is having the knowledge and ability to know which is which.
Please explain what you mean by 'textbook' things?

Its hard to comment without sounding like a Preacher or snitch.

Why is 'Safety' a game where some people think that winning is to willingly do something that they know is dangerous and survive?

I have FIVE friends who have died doing treework. Not people that I knew of..people I knew. To me its disrespectful to them and their family to consciously do things that are so blatantly unsafe.

Haste makes waste. The world just needs to slow the fuck down. Haste is strongly linked with greed, and is the source of many of the worlds problems in general, not just tree work.

Not having helmets is what makes it look the most amateur to me... and yes standing on the loader bucket looks janky too. But we all know a ladder can be knocked over far easier than that loader and no one would blink an eye if he was on a ladder to make that cut. Not to mention you can't safely set up a metal orchard ladder on a concrete driveway without special feet....

I'll occasionally work off the roof of my service or chip truck to make a few cuts. Yes it is safer than a ladder, no I'm not tied despite being higher than 6 feet or whatever... There are lots of 'textbook' things that can be more dangerous than breaking some rules. The difference is having the knowledge and ability to know which is which.
Damn. 44 years of making a living in the saddle and I’m still a fucking amateur.

that's rediculous... when you master a skill you naturally become faster and more efficient.... it's not atrying to be fast... it's just that speed and efficiency are side effects of being good

You're only displaying a choice common to people who are amateurs, @rico , you're not being addressed/ called anything at all.
I realize @27RMT0N was not addressing me specifically, and I also realize that working without head protection is generally not a good look for the industry. I was just attempting to poke a little well deserved fun at myself.

On a serious note, I do agree with you Murph. Despite slowing down physically and being much more deliberate/thoughtful with my actions in a tree, I am more productive as a climber than I have ever been. Strange how that works?

You are also adding emphasis to the point I was getting at above. Your slower, more deliberate/thoughtful actions actually yield much more, and better results than some hasty move someone might pull trying to hurry, or just being lazy and complacent.

The point I was trying to make is that it is experience that has made me more productive. Through that experience I have learned to be much more deliberate and thoughtful, which has made me more productive despite the fact that old age has taken a step, or two, or three out of my giddy up.

That's a place where an emoji would help.

You come in hot, sometimes.
