I once buried a saw in my calf at around 175-180 ft, and as you said, it happened in the blink of an eye. Gawd that fucking hurt. I calmly let the guys on the ground know that I had just done something stupid, and asked them if they could kindly fire up the trunk cause I was coming down. Man that was a long decent to the ground!

I would note that Paul's story is a good reminder as to why we should always have quick egress to the ground gentlemen.

Dat's a lot of feet Erik. So glad you were out of that mess to tell us about it. I was a short piddly drop in a small mango removal. An easy peasy cut and drop scenario. But I was angry with one of my employees since the day before and it carried out that morning. I should never have climbed in that mood. Small or big.....

A few month ago, on a dead pine, cut 1 branch to free fall, only left hand on the saw, tip hits a olive tree below, catapults the branch up, hits saw blade, pushes it upward and bang corner of my thumb nail is hit.
We can never lose attention for a single moment.

Thanks for sharing, @islandarb . I’ve had thoughts recently of how cozy I’ve been around my saw. I’m strict about not one-handing, but that’s not the only habit that can hurt us. Too many times I’ve had an un-braked saw in hand while doing something else. It became a habit when I traded for my current top handle that has a stiff brake. Just got out of practice of setting it by reflex. Well, guess it’s time for maintenance.
