New Saddle Shopping

I love innovation, and I know innovation isn't always welcomed at first. I also shouldn't be posting right now when I can't give full attention to what I'm writing and thinking, and should be doing something else entirely.

It does look comfy, I'll give it that.
No rub on the DMM Saddle, but I am not sure it could be described as innovative. The TreeMo when it first showed up on the scene? That’s was innovation.

The first guys I thought about when I saw the pics were you and Paul. Figured I would wait until I heard reports from you two.
Funny you say that…I thought of Paul immediately. I’m not sure if the root of the word Kinisi is Japanese or Greek, but something makes me think of Paul in Japan. That bridge system in minty.

I'm a little miffed at the lack of suspender connection options. Or am I missing something? I am seriously considering getting this Kinisi when I can get 20% off on it, but if I can't put suspenders on it, I may have to pass. I need suspenders or the big saws pull my harness down to my ankles.

Not for me anyway, at over $1K Can (highly devalued northern canadian pesos to be sure but the price - gag) - and here arb jobs advertised at $28 an hour - right . . . . .
I’d rather buy the 1990 Honda Civic again for $600 dollars I got back in 2010. Foolishly didn’t want to keep it around and got a Ford Ranger for $800 instead the next year. Ran that very much into the ground.

Those were very cheap cars and this is a very expensive saddle.

This is how I have run my TreeMo for years. A little of the supplied bungee and your off and running. Highly effective suspenders
setup.

That looks pretty effective!

Noticed that the size small will have less accessory holes than the M/L

I just watched the video and overall looks great. Pretty happy with my MB2.0 and TMessential at the moment, but for the next one....?

I do wonder if the fancy adjustable bridge is a little TOO easy to adjust/tighten though. It looked so easy to do that I could easily imagine the tail catching on things and tightening when you don't want it to. But I could be wrong.

It would have to be under very little load to happen easily, but it is technically possible. And Murphys Law tells us that it will eventually happen

Maybe a 2-3mm shock cord prusik between the knot and D, clipped to one of the small saddle holes near the lower D webbing adjuster.

It might keep the knot up and away from snagging (as much, anyway), without restricting adjustment or requiring additional adjustment of its own.

Spitballing without having used it, of course. If using the tendon, maybe attach the block knot of the tendon to the bridge knot, giving the tendon dual purpose.

My experience with a TM Evo and also an adjustable bridge is:

- The two knot blocks on a dual bridge (two ropes scaffolded together) is very bulky and can definitely catch things. I think the Kinisi has the left side of both bridges as a sewn splice to the leg D, with the bar tack ends facing out, creating cleanliness beyond the left side leg D and allowing the bridge ring to flow all the way to that side.

- The tail of the bridge on the adjuster side can easily be managed, and is actually best when the bridge is longer than needed. This helps the tail remain hanging out of the way rather than sotting against the adjuster cams. I agree that an accidental adjustment may happen, but I also never experienced it happening to me.

Is Teufleberger going to continue the “TM” line of harnesses? Or are they done with building harnesses, all DMM going forward? Or something else. For example is Teufleberger licensing the TM design to DMM? Probably doesn’t matter except to the parties involved.

What about parts availability which was one of the "features" of the TM (at least in the ad videos . . . ).
One reason why I usually try to "capital spare" some parts at least when I purchase something that may wear (that and parts can be "long lead" these days more and more it seems).

I expect all the wear parts and accessories required will be available soon, one thing at a time right?

Who owns what and when doesn’t matter that much, it’ll all come out in the wash eventually. Just interesting to consider why/how DMM took the lead on this harness. Likely there are good reasons and tree climbers will certainly benefit.

Meanwhile my TMs are doing great, well maintained and doing their job very well. Popcorn is on the stove, melting a little butter now ;-)

Treemagineers owned the TM rights I believe. Guess they do not care about the TM. Because the Kinisi will outsell the TM til they have to drop it. My take on it. No one wants chinese made hardware with inferior metallurgy.
