Recession?

Hope things pick up for you and it sounds like you're in a good spot for debt. Hopefully you can still feel those who depend on that. I'm out of work completely. I have nothing and am exercising my inner calm TF down. Think I'm gonna go do some climbing for fun this week now that hunting season is over. Might lift my spirits to touch trees for a while. It's gonna be an interesting year to see where the universe leads me. Kinda scary but it'll work out.
Not saying I “like” all of what you said, just mostly the end. Get grounded, bruv.

2023 - made some pretty significant corrections to our broken equation since 2022. Upped our margin by almost 20%. Stopped marketing/leads (angi’s) all together in July 2023. Did half the amount jobs I did in 2022, came in 20% lower gross revenue.

Phones been rather quiet since Xmas, not suprised. Going to be interesting where things go. Am located on the coast on New England, “recession” here seems unlikely. But I have noticed building slowing, and folks being a little tighter with their wallet. Hoping the murmurings through the vine are true in that we’ve turned the corner for ungodly equipment costs and interest rates. Best of luck to everyone in 2024! My biggest take away has been - keep focusing on what works, try not to listen to the “noise” and keep working my ass off.

I just came upon this thread for the first time and read it through.

One thing I didn't see mentioned is buyers/clients emotions. I have noticed that even people who operate in the range of tens of millions will all of a sudden not want to move forward on a few thousand $ job if the general public is talking downturn. So maybe it's not so much important that it be a fact of a recession or not having money, just that it feels that way can slow even the wealthy.

That brings two things to mind. Every conversation for work we need to make sure not to bring our own down concerns into it. Also during the depression there were huge numbers of vacancies in skyscrapers and as a result many lost that real-estate to the bank. But one guy had nearly 100% occupancy - and kept his building through tough times.

Noticing a lot of sales and “good deals” lately on products. Much more than the last 10-12 years imho.
A hint of what’s to come? Who really can know for sure…
I’m seeing the same and I know it’s February but phones are not ringing, bids are not as good as normal for this time of the year , and our schedule is the slowest in 5 years

I just bought a brand new F350 6.7 XL Off-Road $5,000 under MSRP, with a two-year Ford protect maintenance plan. What’s crazy, is the super duty was built in December, so it only stayed on the lot for about a month and a half. Apparently truck sales are at it all time low, and this is the time to buy.

Sorry you guys are feeling the squeeze. The bottom finally fell out in January. I worked 4 days. I was on my second job for February and the truck went down. Had to cancel the last couple jobs I had left. Brought the truck back to the builder and figured I'd get the annual inspection early and all my little things I save up over the year for the annual trip. Unfortunately it sits with no estimate on a parts delivery date. I figured I'd get all the little things done and the annual incase this is the end of the road for the business. I can't even find anybody to climb for locally although I'm not trying super hard because I know what I'm getting myself into. Now I read and walk the dog, and now 2nd dog. Im beating the hell out of my end of the couch. Gonna take up gardening seriously this spring and also get into fermentation. Thats my plan.

I have no idea what the industry look like up there. I am in Tulsa, OK
Very seasonal unless you do utility work. This year was exceptional because we had a couple of significant wind events right before Christmas. Typically everyone shuts down between Christmas and Easter.
