Rigging ring as primary rigging point for negative rigging.

I was under the impression that one must have two adjacent rings when using it for a primary rigging point in negative rigging. I’ve seen lots of footage with people only using a single ring. Are there any threads I can be directed to or anyone who can weigh-in?

Also, any reasons why people don’t like ultra slings with rings for primary rigging point?

Deadeye slings snug up better to me..cow hitch and timber hitch....I have negative rigged good size pieces in a single ring. Not these days as I just prefer blocks for neg rigging. So many nice new blocks out there these days..

I used triple when rigging big wood. 3 headed beast had 2 large rings with a smaller one in the center to make a better arch of friction and a better bend radius. It was my understanding the terminal rigging point should be 2 or more rings as a standard practice.

I have doubles, but never used the prussic ring. That would work great though. Found it bulky adding the prussic so ditched it right away.

IDK. My guess is maybe your rigging bigger chunks with the double rings, and if the rope is against the trunk there’s so much weight that added friction isn’t noticed(?)

On the technical side, having 2 rings (or the bendright rings) ensures the proper bend radius ratio for the rope. If I’m not mistaken, I believe the bend radius for rigging should be 1:6 (someone if very welcome to correct me here). The bend radius needs to be 6 times the diameter of the rope. So, 1/2” rope, 3” bend radius. Rope manufacturers should give the recommended radius and ratio for their ropes.

One ring tends put ropes in a tighter bend, which gets more troublesome when you’re blocking down big wood.

You know,, I hadn’t thought about that but the one we had difficulty with was a pocket sling. I’ll have to get some bigger deadeyes made up and give it another shot.
That will eliminate your scenario. I only use deadeyes. That negates misorientation and slop for me. Give it a shot. Love rings for a lot of scenarios.

I don't see the literal radius being different, just that the two bends have a short, horizontal run between them.

This is the point that I couldn't grok out of thus, but the nagging voice in my head kept saying something isn't correct! I have done some experiments with swivels, exploring this concept, and I think that you're correct here Sean.

Two rings in no way creates better bend radius..just more surface area. A tad better than one with more surface area, but lets not fool ourselves into thinking bend radius increases.
Thats where that 3rd small ring in the center comes in. It adds the bend in the middle so it is an actual improvement to the bed radius not just a longer horizontal run to the edges where the bend radius actually lives.

Steve when you get a chance take pics of tge setup hanging. Been awhile since I had that whole setup. I gifted it to Shem I think with double beasts when he was righing some big stuff years ago..interested in seeing how it improves bend radius. Reed is splicing me some new ring setups....so might get this going.
