Yeah, the thread title is a bit off. I couldn't think of any way a tree could get on the ground that didn't involve falling. The original caption with the pic was "It fell over a long time ago, but it never gave up", which was too long for a title.

If you fellows can come up with something better, Tom has my permission to change it. Maybe "Hard times?" or "Tough times?" would work.

I'm glad you're enjoying the pic. I found it inspirational.

Title is good even if it is a bit of a tree climber "trigger". Not in the "Awakening" section, context is everything.

You don’t think it’s because of grazing by deer/cattle?

Could be. Could be a simple wind blow over given the exposed location. The "side growth" after the fall looks to be 20-25 years old or more depending on locale and length of growing season, tree species etc.
