You are all right! Many details here. In my in-field experience, the half hitch direction does not make a difference in strength or stability when the knot is loaded normally. years ago in some very unscientific knot breaking sessions, I found the same. I mention those sessions not as proof of anything, but I did notice the cow hitch did behave in breaking much more like a basket hitch, than a true choked configuration. I always attributed this to the amount of rope in the not comparably.That’s what I’m wondering, what are the details that make a difference with this knot?
