Covid Close To You

I have a fairly good friend who worked for me. She’s is currently preggers with twins and diabetic, working in a cafe. We just lifted our state masking requirements.
I worry for her, and you bet she’s vaxed

its unbelievable to me that when the evidence is so clear as to why the US was hit so hard by this bug, not one move has been made to stem the flow of high fructose corn syrup being pumped down our throats. its almost as if there is a belief that sick people are more valuable and profitable than healthy people.

Not to derail the thread but nutrition is something I'm passionate about.

Using HFCS and other artificial sweeteners and ingredients is cheaper and they can produce more versus using real raw natural ingredients. This is where it comes down to an individual becoming responsible for their own health, educating themselves, and making decisions on what to eat and not to eat.

I cut out HFCS years ago. When I was in high school actually I become very interested in nutrition and started educating myself etc.

Another thing that I am interested in is the possiblity that the whole "heart healthy" diet recommendations may actually be wrong, and eating fat, whole eggs, milk, butter, cheese, and red meat may actually be good for you. I've heard of a lot of people who have reversed medical conditions, gotten off meds, etc. by cutting out carbohydrates and sugar and eating a high fat diet or Keto.

Modern medicine pushes drugs, etc. and they have their place but I feel like more attention should also be focused on how nutrition can impact health / medical conditions and more natural ways to treat certain issues.

This was a good and informative read for anyone interested:

Ah, finally some good news!

Of course real food is better for you. It's all about moderation and portion size when it comes to full fat stuff. There are new studies showing links between eating high amounts of animal protein(excluding fish) and high levels of infertility in men. I suspect that this is probably related to all the chemicals, hormones, and other crap that goes into factory farmed food rather than the meat itself. Our world is so polluted with synthetic garbage that food studies done in this country probably yield different results than if those studies were done in places where food is produced without fertilizer, antibiotics, hormones, etc. It is hard work to even source purely produced food and then it costs an arm and a leg because of subsidies for things like corn. Eating bugs is going to end up being the way to go sooner or later, by choice or not. If only those Doritos didn't taste so damn good!

Good masks seem to work for casual contact.

Best wishes for her.

I’m talking about a bigger issue though then just the ingredients in foods (a significant issue in itself) which is that everything we think we know about nutrition and the general diet recommendations and guidelines may be completely wrong.

Going back to the 1900s when “heart healthy” diet recommendations were introduced and fat became the enemy so to speak and sugar and carbohydrates were pushed instead.

Just look at the food pyramid, the majority of calories is recommended to come from carbs and sugar and only a small percentage from fat. Some studies have shown that a high fat, moderate protein, and low carb diet may actually be healthier and lead to a reversal in common medical conditions that people are on medications for.

Now obviously there isn’t a one size fits all when you consider diet recommendations, everyone is different and what is right for one person may not necessarily be right for another, etc.

But it gets me thinking deep about how our nutrition guidelines and recommendations could be causing higher rates of illness, obesity, etc. including among children. Everyone has a different opinion of course and I’m not saying a high fat diet is the only way to go, you got to decide what is right for you.

There’s a whole scope of issues that come into play here beyond just diet though.

I agree with everything you're saying. To me it has been the conventional wisdom for at least the last 15 years. Half your plate should be vegetables, then about 1/4 each complex carbs and protein. This varies slightly for each individual in terms of age, sex, caloric output, etc.

I dont know how the science works but a cow fed roundup ready corn cant possibly be any more nutritious than cornflakes they feed kids. Its like different versions of the same crap. on top of that, Like Noah says, all those toxins bioaccumulate in that meat and we are basically like those condors and DDT. or those catfish with 3 heads.

I agree whole heartedly. This is a great topic and worthy of its own thread.

I've been working on losing weight, 6 6" and 250# is still overweight even if you are quite active. I picked up a good used bicycle, stopped drinking beer, or eating 80% beef, etc.. I eat organic garlic raw, lots of other herbs and organic mushroom immune mix, etc.. We alone are responsible for our own health and doing research about the best way to maintain it.

I'm hoping for more robust debate on the government dictates and mismanagement. I'd like to see our elected representatives to hold community meetings frequently again. Unfortunately weirdly the misinformation on both sides has proliferated in the last couple years and censorship has only made it worse. I liked this article that presents a good overview: https://thegrayzone.com/2022/03/31/left-covid-lockdowns-mind-autopsy/ Jimmy Dore interview: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...669D50C5067089E377C8669&view=detail&FORM=VIRE

I've spent hundreds of hours reading and viewing vids on the pandemic, doing my own research. I was gullible early on but will never take a government dictate at face value.

That’s great to hear that you are making some positive lifestyle changes! Keep at it. I like to think of it as a marathon not a sprint with everyday a new opportunity.

You should check out the Health, Fitness, Nutrition thread in the “tree free zone” section. Some good stuff there.

"Losing weight" is not necessarily the right objective but getting in better shape, changing unhealthy habits like eating at night. I ate some cheese late and did not sleep well last night.

Metabolism improves with the right diet, have tried paleo and cutting back on starches. One thing I noticed with cutting out the IPA beers was general better health and brain chemistry, healthy sweating.

Definitely not a one size fits all. What works for one person may not work for another. I tend to favor a more personalized approach to health, fitness, nutrition, etc.

Cutting out the alcohol altogether or at least reducing consumption can have tremendous health benefits all the way around both for physical and mental health.

beer is made with wheat which is not GMO, but they're still using roundup to make "harvesting easier "... GLYPHOSATE nasty for the gut microbiome which is a huge part of holistic health... did a job for a client who has crones disease... I asked him what he thinks caused it... he said. BEER.

it's amazing they're still allowing that poison on the market... all kinds if bad health outcomes are very correlated to the roundup graph

Possibly "Peak" IPA beer, which is organic may be better. Hard to know if beer is worse than non-organic bread with leaching of pesticides as you point out. Didn't Monsanto buy the Roundup company which was owned by Bayer? So many lawsuits on Roundup, and they fought like the dickens against them, I heard suits are being appealed to the Supreme court.
