Agreed, I hear from clients all the time, the only safe way to remove this tree is with a bucket truck, this is after the bucket company bids the job first. So I leave them with the impression I’m a reckless hack..
I say that we use fully secured and redundant systems when cutting... same general vertical rope-access tools and techniques used in some industrial projects like wind- turbine maintenance, but specially tuned to trees.

Also, bucket trucks are a great start in the PNW.

That verbiage sound so much better than “we’re always tied to the tree twice”. It’s funny how a lexicon can create it’s own aire.

I just had a short dialog with the home owner of the great Eastside crane tipping incident, and she informed me that she, her husband, and their 17 year old daughter were all in the home at the time of the incident. Inexcusable!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I NEVER allow the HO's to remain in their home when I am working around or above their home. If there is the remotest possibility that anything could strike their home, they are out...A small inconvenience, but there are no exceptions...

I’ve also read that the crane op and a climber went to the hospital to get checked out. One account had much more detail, even naming the hospital they went to. But lacked any specifics and said they were released soon after

Got to love the fact that after the initial bullshit we have turned this into a meaningful conversation about alternatives to shock loading a crane....
If you consider an ego stroking conversation of how you all would of hypothetically done things so much better than someone else, I’d hate to know what your regular conversations are like. Obviously all those different ways could “hypothetically” of worked but who cares we aren’t on the job site and any real professional has their own way of doing things and getting it done, I still see no meaning or point in this conversation. Sounds like the girls I hear gossiping about everyone behind their backs. Just curious Rico, when you called the homeowner did you tell them if they had just hired you to rig it off your dick they wouldn’t have to worry about any of these problems?…You know what they say “small minds talk about people”…Next time I see you working without a helmet I’ll be sure to call OSHA and the homeowners to make sure they don’t hire anymore cowboys with hats for helmets lol, I get it Rico I used to be more like you hate on and make it a point to pick out all the stuff other companies where doing wrong but at the end of the day I realize it’s not helping me at all.

This ‘ego stroking conversation’ is just critical thinking. It’s productive and informative. Working out different scenarios and hypotheticals informs us of how to make the best choices possible on the job site.

That part of the conversation I agree with, there’s definite been multiple different opinions on how to do it differently that all could potential work, pretty hard to actually know thru a video which would actually be the most appropriate to use, seems to be a pretty strait forward removals, I don’t have the time to watch these videos thought which don’t tell me to anything about the actual crane incident that happened, which is what this was about to begin with, I think I need to turn off the notifications because it’s getting pretty irritating, but I would like to get a notification WHEN the actual facts of the specific job this post was about come out.

I didn’t need to call the HO’s buddy.. They posted a comment on Treesons latest vid, so I simply asked her, and she informed me that she, her husband, and their 17 year old daughter Were In Fact in the house when the accident occurred. You can try and defend the fact that Eastside allowed the occupants do remain in the home during the job, but it is an inexcusable act in my mind.

Quickly and professionally clearing a hung up 100’+ Fir is not a hypothetical in my world. Be professional enough to not allow a winch line to be sucked into the chipper is not a hypothetical. Topping a little dead conifer without getting clobbered in the fucking head is not a when hypothetical either. When I see a YouTube Arbstar turn these relatively simple tasks into a shitshow I feel it is my duty to speak up...otherwise fools like yourself might think they are watching quality treework.

Fact- Eastside tipped their crane over on someone’s home.

Fact- Eastside allowed the occupants to remain inside as they dumped their crane on their home.

Have you ever actually worked with a crane before? How many guys do you know that do? How many times have any of them actually had the homeowners leave the house?. Right and I’m going to take advice from the fool who doesn’t wear a helmet

Have you ever actually worked with a crane yourself? I’m not saying it’s right however it’s common practice across the board to not make homeowners leave the house and I think it is good to point out that issue, but I’m definitely not going to take advice from the fool who doesn’t wear a helmet but acts holier than though and says others can’t complete easy tasks yet breaks his leg just trying to walk on uneven ground you might want to think about putting on a helmet if you’re loosing your footing on the ground. You did say I was in the running with you for asshole of the year award so I’m just putting in my best effort here. I just really don’t understand what the obsession is, for every east side tree works there’s a thousand companies much worse even, is it just because they have so many followers that makes you mad? Obviously people watch things that are entertaining to them it’s no secret, like I’d say someone like Reg isn’t necessarily making videos very well edited and shot and put together to be the most entertaining and attract followers but for people that take it seriously like us it’s just what we are looking for.

So I broke my leg while “walking on the ground”? You might want to recheck your facts because that’s news to me, and all who witnessed the event.

Speaking of fools, you seem to believe that ones skillset and experience resides in a hard hat.

It’s people that dress safe but don’t act it that bug me. A couple days ago I did an emergency crane removal with an operator I hadn’t worked with prior. At one point, he said “hey, I’m not trying to rush you”. We were bantering enough that I replied, “you couldn’t rush me if you tried”. Rico, I would love for you to wear a helmet, but I could never make you do so even if I tried.

I’m pretty sure he is these days? My ole boss called me up asking for chainsaw pant recommendations, I stuttered! He’s in his 70’s and I’ve never known him to wear any saw protection.
also getting him going on SRT a bit too
