CMC lift failure

Oh My Wow.

I have a friend who does some light lifting with his. He uses a BilJax, but still just as bad for it. In spite of his 40 years experience, and he still does it, because “it will be just fine”. And it will be, until the one time it isn’t.

The old Snorkel brand boom lifts from the 1980s were fitted from the factory with a lifting eye on the ends of the booms.

They were used to raise Welding machines & the like on building jobs: I remember also seeing bridge crews suspend their machines when they went home for the weekend.

Obviously the newer lifts don’t have that but the old ones were designed & solidly built to do just that.

I just read on a FB post by UP Equip that the 92HD also uses the same upper boom as the 83HD. Just a heads up for anyone with a 92 who may have thought this model's trouble may not effect them.

I didn’t realize the old Snorkels had a lifting eye, but those sure are heavy lifts. Unfortunately he doesn’t just lift with his though, he uses it as a rigging point, or stacks logs in the basket to swing them somewhere he can toss them out.

I’ve been running my easy lift for 8 seasons now no issues
Up recent email or letter makes them a major piece of shit and very unprofessional
Please look up David Webb from Well Built equipment on Facebook

I can’t believe they said what they did
UpEpquiment is a low life company through my eyes

Nothing like kicking someone that is down

Up equipment
You have plenty of threads on treebuzz alone on welds failing
Undercarriage failure
Sensors failings
Jerking people around
Parts taking weeks to reach their customers
“Warranty” parts have to be paid for

just to let you know
I studied all manufacturers and attempted 3 tcia shows
Up equipment were not very pleasant to talk with
Didn’t want to spend time with a possible future customer that drove minimal 400 miles to do future business with
Up equipment does not manufacture their lifts same as All Access

shouldn’t throw rocks when you own a glass greenhouse

Can’t imagine what else I could dig up on the internet
I’m only speaking from what I’ve read on tree buzz
But o Mr David Webb works on all lifts and I believe he knows more than most when it comes to lifts

Well built is the one to do my annual
Right or wrong Up Equipment this is NOT how to represent yourself
SHADY

Where did you see this email ?

I shared this thread with a friend who is a weldor. The company he works for does arbo-related welding too. Repairs and production work too. My buddy looked at the tears and said that damage like that can come from
'hard' use. Stopping and starting motion with no feathering of the controls. Slam dunking is a term that comes to mind.

Anyone who has snapped Silly Putty will understand. A little stretch then a clean break. Not a stretch to break like pizza cheese.

I wonder how the boom is cradled for transport. does it put the load on the tube between the cylinder attachment points?
It's interesting that you should say that. or I should say your buddy. The Hydros have a ramp up and ramp down feature so you don't introduce a "whip" onto the boom.
All this leaves me wanting to know the ASTM # of the steel, it's yield psi, and it's tensile psi.

Have to say Venas I took a different view on the All Access and UpE chatter.

All Access and Ale (AA sales rep) seem to be guiding the direction into operator error and misuse. Time will tell, but they are going out on a limb I believe stating that the equipment is all perfectly fine if used properly. Lives and families are at stake here. We're all seeing the facts, the fails and yet other pieces of same models coming forward with cracks and such. Seems like a lot of misuse but I read in another post that Monday they will be posting pictures of all this misuse.

I did think Up was a bit forward in stating that a major recall of both the units needs to occur. Perhaps a bit forward, but they're really picking up and making points that All Access should be stepping to the plate and making. I did not think they were bashing them at all, just making some valid points. This is not a minor situation. Is this thier right or place to do so? Maybe not but they're trying to call it as they see it. I'm more surprised at All A response to this.

I'm definitely not here to defend UpE, I'm a Platform Basket owner, but they did chip in $1000 to the GoFundMe page.

Let's just hope all this awareness will prevent any more serious accidents. That is the main point of all of this.

Let’s talk about the platform basket. How’s that unit ?
