Has anyone here tried the “Arbormats?”
I’m considering upgrading from my plywood roads on nice lawns.

They are considerably cheaper than Alturnamats.

I only use matting for my mini and occasionally my 8000 lb chipper

for Alturnamats, I believe they are less expensive than American Arborist. I’ve not tried any of the other mats, I like the durability of the Alturnamats too much. We tend to be hard on them, and haven’t managed to break one yet, even with a 70 ton crane.

I currently have Liberty Mats. They are pretty flexible under the crane. I am going to try Duradeck with the new crane. They were $205 a piece shipped
I have rented mats from Sunbelt for $10/day/mat. You might have different mats up there that you can rent to try out if you're wondering about them. A crane makes any mat deform quite a bit, I suspect...

The problem is when they warp bad I cant get them back on the truck It's a pain. I had somebody build a berm and park a crane on the duradeck mats overnight. When they moved the truck the sprang bad to flat very quickly. I would agree with you but some are stiffer than others for sure.

We switched to Arbormats from Plywood about a year ago and it's made a big difference in our operation. They are great and have saved us a lot of money. As everyone knows plywood doesn't hold up more that year + or - and the price of plywood has doubled in the past couple of years too. The mats hold up very well and are light enough to move around easily. The only problem we had was on a hot day we had the crane on the mats on an asphalt drive and when the job was done and we were packing up we discovered the diamond pattern from the Arbormat had left an impression in the customer's asphalt. We are going to purchase a handful of Arbormats with the diamond pattern only on one side for situations like that. We do like the double sided ones too.

I purchased some aswell with a friend. We ended up getting 28 between us. They are very nice. Cold does not seem to effect them In the slightest. We went with smooth on one side and very happy so far.

I bought Duradeck mats and it was money well spent for my operation. They are more flexible than Alturnamats but still better than ruts and plywood costs.

I like the stackability and pavement friendliness of Duradeck mats, but the indestructibility of Alturnamats is hard to beat. We have Alturnamats, but our crane company carries Duradecks. For sure both are excellent, and have their positives and negatives, and both are far superior to plywood!

I bumped another thread about ground protection more the merrier.
I was a long time plywood guy and kept talking myself out of buying mats because of cost but in reality the cost gets recouped quickly and the resale value is virtually the same as new. That being said they are a sound investment for any company.

Where are the best prices?
I think that partly depends on the volume you buy. We have bought all of our from Gap Power, but they sell Alturnamats. I think those tend to be a little bit more expensive than the Arbormats that you can buy from Rick, or Duradecks. I believe that you can find pricing online at gappower.com, and I know Rick has his prices online as well.
