Can you use the OG Rope Runner for MRS?

I'm currently shopping for a mechanical climbing system primarily for SRT, but once in a while on crane jobs I need to use MRT and would like my mechanical to be able to switch back and forth. The OG Rope Runner looks like it ticks most of the boxes for me but it's not explicitly described as being for MRS while the RRpro is described as such. Is there a reason not to use the OG for MRS?

It works. Like the pro, you cannot connect back to the runner for your doubled rope. The zigzag is better suited, in my opinion, for a mechanical MRT system. The runner is a great SRS device

I use my akimbo for everything. The only time it’s in drt sorry, can’t change names midstream. It will always be srt and drt to me, but anyway,, I use it drt off the crane, I don’t necessarily like the feel of it but it’s usually such a short distance who cares.

I mainly climb srt, but need to be able to do a little bit of mrt when working with cranes.

That's exactly why I'm asking, thanks.

The og runner’s manual says it’s not for mrs, if that means anything to you. That said, I’ve used one for a crane job and liked it. I use my rrp all the time and love the seamless switch between styles, especially on crane jobs.

I didn't realize that, its been awhile since I've looked that over.

I've used it on a crane job before, but definitely prefer the zigzag on crane days. To be honest with just repelling there's little difference in the performance of either device. I like the compactness and the self tending better of the ZZ

Do you know why that is? I thought I remembered hearing that a while back. Something to do with it getting stuck open?

To be honest, I do t know. I only borrowed one to try it on a crane job. It was much later that I found out what the manual stated.

When the rope gets clipped back onto the bridge next to the RR it usually lines up with the gap between the plates of the 'bird' or top arm lever of the device. Rope wedges into gap during descent and interferes with bird going back up when you want to stop unless you can configure a little bit of space between your rope termination and the runner.
Plenty of ways to solve the issue.

I have used Rope Runner many times on crane or random acts of DRT. Use two bridges, slightly different lengths, and you won’t run into any issues.

Ran HH2 for a few years. It works but has all the same annoyances in a DRT setup as it does in SRT. Whenever crane day came I borrowed a RR.

Used Akimbo a few times for crane use, fantastic. Liked it way more for that application than as a SRT device.
