Moss Cinching Lanyard prototype

At this point you'll have to storm my east coast white pine stockade bunker for design details. Contact Rico if you decide you must do that. He needs an east coast visit anyway to remember what mixed hardwood forest looks like ;-) My big slingshots are locked and loaded.

The lock is below the foot ascender. The way it works is move the right foot up (ascender on right foot), then tip your toe up on your left foot (to keep the half hitch on the foot), bring the left foot up side-by-side with the ascender foot, tip both feet toe-down slightly (locks the half hitch on the left foot) and stand up, repeat. When you lift the ascender foot you're standing on the locked foot.

Single #49 or half hitch #46?

It would be #49 configured like so, photo shows the right foot but if you are using a right footed foot ascender then the half hitch lock would be on the left, reversed from the photo:

Note that in the above photo toe down locks it, toe up (in another photo in the linked album) when lifting for the next lock.

Further thinking on the newest Fate Lanyard version, I'm coming to the conclusion that despite its excellent functionality and versatility, it is not likely to be widely embraced in the climber community, change is slow and I don't think it will ever be a big enough market for me to attempt to "go big" on it. Every serious climber work or rec has a more or less individual climbing style/gear configuration. I'm biased because my lanyard use is more centered around cinching/SRS mode, that has to be fairly rare out there so my excitement about it is my own, need to remember that.

Plan is just make up 20 or so and make them available, if it turns out demand is strong then make some more ;-) If some company takes the idea and runs with it so be it, likely that won't happen. With this sort of thing the devil's in the details, the lanyards I produce will be as close to perfectly set up as they can be. If it turns out knock-off's happen, I doubt they'll nail the spec as well as I will and climbers would notice the difference. It's just a lanyard but it has special qualities.

I have two versions in mind, one the worker version, 11mm 24-strand, 15' long, one of the hardware components would be more "heavy duty" gear for the work environment.

The other is the rec version, woods friendly rope pattern, 11mm 24-strand, woods compatible cover pattern 15' or 20' long (what do the dedicated rec climbers want?). The component I mentioned would be lighter towards the goal of keeping gear light for carrying stuff into the woods for longer distances. It would be a very strong/safe/rated component.

Either lanyard can be used for rec or work. A lanyard could be made custom order for whatever cordage or length a climber prefers.

Thx for the brainstorming,

Can't wait to see what you've come up with, AJ. I use my long lanyard in an SRS configuration with a carabiner often. Sometimes with a double wrap on smaller limbs. Fast, efficient, and stronger than most people would believe. Still, it is limiting, and something better would be appreciated.

Cool! Yes, this lanyard will allow you to still do that when you want to but the "more secure" option will be right there as well. What length lanyard do you like?

And by the way, I see that Mr. Bingham is around, "Fate" is really Kevin's name, representing the early pre-wrench multicender designs. This new version lanyard will not use what I think of as Kevin's retired jersey hung in the rafters "Fate" name.

Finished the latest version of the lanyard prototype and tested it. Works well, it's now my working lanyard. Functions as a secure/not cross-loaded end cinched SRS, traditional on side D's and center attached MRS without any changes to the lanyard for any configuration.

Shot some vid with it in use, will post when when I finish the edit.

The smaller stitched area is a constricter to form a tight eye for the carabiner. The sewn eye to the right of the ring is the life support join.
