What kind of information is in that book? Is it more opinion or empirical research? Our field is so full of non-empirical information...
This and his other book, along with his published papers, are fantastic and based on his lab observations and research.

Highly recommended

Had a big cherry tree fall apart the other day. It unfortunately landed in our customer's house.

All of this stuff on the hook was in the house. We setup with my crane to get it all out of the house. These folks had a brick fence and no back yard access so we had to setup beside the house.

We couldn't reach the tree itself with my 35 ton crane as we were 130 ft away. We got the stuff out of the house and came back another day with a 70 ton crane. It didn't have enough reach with the main boom so we had to put on the jib. This gave us a total of 176 ft of boom. Had to take small picks but at least we were able to reach it as there was a pool, garden, bridge, and some other stuff under the tree.

We’ve had the fun of setting up in this driveway twice now, the rear tires were touching the ground and the bottom of the front bumper was 7’ above the ground!View attachment 63620
That one is definitely way up there. Is that a 340 or 560?

We've had the front bumper of my crane up high enough to walk under, once. It always just makes me uneasy. Its probably all in my head. Just one of those times you know a small mistake could be terrible.

It’s a 340XL, which is basically the same as the 340, but with a few more feet of boom. Excellent crane for trees, plenty of capacity for most trees and sets up easily in a pretty tight space.

We’ve had this one set up this high a few times, this operator does almost nothing but trees, and is very comfortable with some pretty sketchy looking setups. We don’t own this crane, but we rent it quite frequently. I think we gave him about $50k this year...

We have rented a regular 340 for years prior to buying our own crane. I've hung on the ball of that 340 more times than I can count. I considered buying a 340 pretty seriously. Our local terex dealer pissed us off pretty bad so that kinda put us off that. I actually bought a second tms300 last week. Both of them have 104' main booms and will outlift a 340 at 50 ft radius even though they are 35 ton cranes. I really like our local grove dealer so that helps. I also really like the feel of the controls. Now if I could just climb hills faster id be very happy.
