Any of you chaps using one of these? I tried a pulley on my bridge but it was too easy to flop over sideways almost out of control. I went back to using just a ring so that there was a bit of friction. But this gadget looks like a real answer and probably very gentle on the bridge rope. Wish it was not quite so pricey.
 
If you keep adding stuff to protect your gear, it will not wear do quickly, because you will become too encumbered to climb.


Once, when I was a new trad rock climber, I had everything I could possibly need for gear choices, not knowing what I'd need. A guy told me if I didn't have so much stuff on my harness, the climb would be way easier.



Tied rope-bridges are cheap, unless the manufacturer can make more money by offering products. My MCRS bridge is a piece of rope, but they have stiffened the ends as an anti-roll out thingy for the anchor hitches.

Sherrill is charging 20-30 bucks for rope bridges with hardened ends. Treestuff's website seems to be down, or at least for me, ATM. IDK about the MRCS bridge cost.
 
Also, rigging paw bridge attachment eliminates need for stitching at all. Maybe 5 dollars in rope and some scaffold knots.

I've run a dmm bat plate as my main attachment point for a few years, no worse wear than with a carabiner or ring

Solving an imaginary problem imo.
 
True, the bridge rope is so easy to renew on my Onyx, even when it does wear. Well, it looked like a cool gadget anyway. Resisting the saddle bling addiction was an unexpected problem when I got back into climbing. My previous climbing was extreme old school - manila rope and galvanized shackle days in the late Sixties/early Seventies on drill rigs and ships' masts, etc. Now, I go into WesSpur or get on a website and am dazzled by all this colourful modern stuff! It is like swapping over from a Model-T Ford to a Jaguar or Ferrari.

I tried one of these when they 1st came out. Found it extremely large, clunky, heavy, and rather pointless. Promptly sent the POS back. Just because someone makes something doesn't mean its a good idea, or a useful tool. This was neither. I think some guys obsess a little too much about the radius on their bridge ring. With rigging plates on our saddles these days a new rope bridge should cost no more than $3-$4. No need for some fancy back stitched high dollar dedicated rope bridge. Just find a rope you like, a rated ring that matches your outfit, a couple double overhands, and your good.
 
I have a hydra pulley on the bridge. I wish I didn't but now I'm kinda stuck. I cant give up the 3 hole swivel, but wish the pulley wasn't so clunky. And a pinch machine. I have had it run over my nipple leaning into my gear and tipping. :crying:
I'm not upgrading to the cali swivel. It's too excessive. A buddy got one to replace the radius ring above which again is excessive for not gaining any extra function over a basic ring.
 
The things we put ourselves through to be all cutting edge and shit. Like running our nipples through a fucking pulley.. I sure hope its worth it gentlemen? I hear having a meat grinder hanging off your saddle down near your junk is gonna be the next big thing in arbor accessory wear... You heard it here first!

I have nipple piercings... imagine my disappointment when I found out they weren't rated.

Useless.

So what did your buddy think about it?
A ring can't swivel and a ring doesn't space your connections like you Hydra and the Cali swivel. Not to mention it being smaller and lighter I think? Not trying to antagonize ya rope but I totally don't get how it's excessive?
I think the hydra/rook is the biggest thing guys are using on their rope bridges...Or Maybe that new teufelberger spreader bar thing is the biggest but idk if it's been released and if any arbo's are actually using those things.
 
Progressively up the sizes of gages and eventually you could put some Petzl Open rings through them :D

I got 2 new Rooks really cheap, so got one on the TM bridge. I like the 3 attachment holes and like the swivel. The pulley is a bit too frictionless. I’d like to seize up the pulley itself somehow without applying heat or driving a screw through it. Maybe locktite or glue between the sheave and cheek plates. Almost positive it’s bearings in there, not a bushing.
Should just get the Cali swivel but I already got these and I’m not terribly unhappy with them.

Not too concerned about bend radius on a bridge ring, but if I was I’d think about just using 2 rings together.
 
Something like this would give a better bend radius, with the wide ring able to rotate for more wear surface. It could be more complicated like the bottom one, or simple, tying a rigging plate on it. The center hole could be a little snug to prevent fast sliding and easier position holding.

The cali swivel is another size bigger than the hydra pulley. At almost half a pound, and rated at 9800 lbs, it is too big for me. Rook says 5.6 oz. And 28kN.
My coworker likes it, the holes can pass a crab gate and it doesn't roll you to the side if you are a tippy canoe.

Yea it came into work with him and I couldn't believe how chunky it was!
So I can live with the hydra, it works pretty damn good. I can balance and have learned my nipple lesson.
