DIY Tree Squeeze - Share your ideas

But that's standard cordage too. I've seen a video of a guy chunking a spar - he spikes down, locks his lanyard in and tugs his TIP and it slides down the spar to him. Is the (rigid) tree squeeze the right cordage / device for that scenario?

Any cordage can do that dude

I just retrieve mine like the extra long adjustable friction saver it is. If I had a smooth straight trunk I am sure it would slide down, but I haven't had one of those since I made mine. A bumpy rough trunk like I am usually on would probably stop the real tree squeeze from sliding down, I don't know, never used one or seen one in person.

I hardly climb DdRT and definitely not on a removal. So no sqeezing. I have loads of spliced friction savers. But nothing beats a fimblclimb for me. Best SRT canopy anchor. I know it is a derail. This is one well built fella. 95 dollars of pure joy. View attachment 61718
2 of my coworkers have fimbls. Love them. I am also in the srt boat. As for JeffGu... too much stuff!
That squeeze thing prolly falls down so good cuz its heavy af. Rope works fine for me. Butterfly + quickie is my choker tie in. I do have an adjustable ring saver....never use it. 10 mm oceans and dmm thimbles. Maxim for prussik.

We must be climbing different types of spars. Silver maple and cottonwood bark catches everything
I hear what your saying.
Yea we got plenty of those here and I can always loosen the rope enough for it to drop to me, probably not as easy as a tree squeeze but I always choke with a quickie.
You know your shit bro just use some really stiff rope, tight cover braid...

It's been mentioned already and most of us have one already! A wire core lanyard. Add a ring prusik? Would that not be about the same thing? If you felt you needed something like the tree squeeze.

Preference and rope configuration. The fimblesaver has a large and medium thimble combo, whereas the climb has medium and small. If you have sewn splice, the saver is for you, as the thimble on the climb is too small to pass the splice. A hand splice will pass through the small thimble with pressure, depending on the rope. I doubt vortex will fit. When retrieving, the splice will catch before the ball most of the time. I mostly leave my ropes unspliced, so the small thimble works great.

My latest friction saver concoction is running a 10mm rope, preferably htp or similar, through the large thimble, and tying off the ends in the same way the new treemotion terminates it’s double bridge. Then add the small or medium thimble on a prusik. It’s stiff like the fimblesaver, and cheaper for me, since I had the thimbles on hand.

yea I love them dmm thimbles....they can be heavy for some but they are bomber and you can configure them so many ways to make so many things. their great for making friction savers and could be good for your scenario.

Fimblsaver or Fimblclimb; one better than the other?

The difference is in size, diameter of rope and thimbles specifically. The fimblsaver was originally designed for light rigging. The fimbclimb for life support.

They both work fine for climbing and better than ring to rings when it comes to retrieval. I go with the climb as the extra size of the saver is not necessary for life support

Question!
What methods or techniques would you use to bring a AFS or Treesqueeze to the ground while avoiding unnessacry impact on say concrete or hard surfaces?
Just concerned of damaging the equipment as it life saving etc.
