Convince me to go SRT/SRWP

I agree strongly with many of the comments that have been made. The zero friction with endless re-directs is superb. 1:1 for ascent is twice as fast and when paired with frog or rope walker system is far more energy efficient and timely. One that I dont believe that was mentioned was the anchoring flexibility. Basal anchoring is fantastic for not having to isolate a crotch, which again can be a majoe PITA at times. Canopy anchors are great for keeping a 1:1 force on anchor as well as leap frogging when a PSP cannot be reached from the ground. Ddrt (MRS) still has a place in climbing and starting to learn a new system will only re-ignite your passion for learning and advancing your abilities...When a pitcher learns how to throw a curve ball they don't forget about the fastball. Each pitch is the right (or wrong) one in a given circumstance. Then once the curvball is mastered they will search for mastery of a change up or slider...point being the more knowledge and skill gained, means a more complete pitcher. The best pitchers make the most money

One thing that wasn't touched on yet is that you can set the length of your climbing line, and the tail length does not change as you climb. Climbing DRT on a small tree with a 200' rope sucks. I climb about 90% SRT, only been on a homemade RW and a Sticht hitch so far, without foot and knee ascenders, and I still use it over DdRT. I just got a regular RW and an Akimbo (Germany’s first?) though, that should work better. Ascenders are also on my immediate order list.

I can only speak for myself, but I have tried most of the latest and great gadgets and the Wrench/ Hitch Climber set up is what I choose to use. Buttery smooth, ultra safe, bulletproof, and works great on a huge variety of ropes. I say you get a Wrench and call it a day. Add a Mini Saka/Haas, a good foot ascender, and your done. Bounce back and forth between the Hitch Climber/DdRT and the Wrench/SRT as needed and you have the best of both worlds.
I endorse this 100% but add some bluemoon and drop the 1/2" line. SRT likes short bridges while DdRT is nicer with a longer bridge. Something to ponder.

Fark you and your 11.7 mm rope you mudda rasshole. Real men climb on straight 11mm and have the sore crippled hands to prove it!
Lolol. I spent a good while on velocity years back. Was the in thing. You are up in the clouds so some light rope is a good gig. I keep thinking of getting some addiction but always pull back. Got some KM3max but too much bounce for me. I like 1.4% elongation @10% MBS. Your HTP is 1.2 I believe which is cool. Just bought some vega which is 1.2 but still 11.7. Ha ha.

My HTP recently went to shit. After giving it a bath it got so baggy and strange I can't climb on it. I tried milking it, climbing on it, and stretching it out but nothing helped. Super bummed. I would replace it with more HTP but I am a little gun shy after this experience. I have a 300 ft hank of 11mm Edelrid Performance that I'm using right now. Its a pretty nice rope with great hand, pretty static when weighted, seems tough as nails, but has a bit more bounce than I like. Hopefully the bounce will disappear as I break it in and stretch it out? Got a boner for the Vega so I would love to hear your thoughts Swing.
Funny but I never gave 2 fucking farts about what rope I was climbing on in the old days. If it kept me from falling out of the sky I was good. Now that I am going SRT most of the time the right rope sure makes a world of difference. Ignorance sure is bliss ain't it!!

@RyTheTreeGuy Also, @Mattfitz runs a sequoia, which is probably the easiest harness to mod to two bridges, one adjustable. Two bridges might be beneficial for him anyway, since he says he double crotches a lot.

I have been in my Sequoia now for 5 or 6 months and must admit that it has been pretty damn good. The open rings are pretty cool and in fact I just added a third open ring onto the ventral attachment point. I just did it on Monday so the verdict is still out, but the plan is to use it for my captains hook and possibly ascent...theory is there will be less sit back and better tending from my neck tether....not enough real world experience yet to come to conclussive evidence

Will let you know on the vega friday afternoon. It has a tight cover I am told so the hitch will fly. But no fucking bounce. No addiction for me them...lol. so wanted the performance but white rope threw me. You can try the new static kern. All poly. Wesdpur is making a funky color soon out. It is static but I hated the white and cover seemed softish....only climbed it 3 or 4 times and sold it. Should have given it longer.

I learned on DdRT and just started switching over to SRT. Went with a Unicender but found that it gives me the heebie jeebies a bit on SRT – not for any legitimate reason, really, but I tend to listen to my gut – so I switched to Hitch Hiker 2 for the time being and I feel a lot more confident on that. YMMV...

I think you should use what you're comfortable with, what just works for you and the way you work, for the kinds of work you are doing. I also think you should constantly add new things to your gear, your methods and techniques, your systems. All of it has great potential and promise to make the whole climbing experience better. Sometimes they don't seem to be what you want, other times it is an enlightening experience. The traditional techniques I've used sometimes get replaced by a collage of things or techniques I discovered by trying anything that wiggled its way into my brain while staring at a tree and wondering how the hell I was going to get this job done with the lowest risk to my fragile, old body or to somebody else's garage roof.

I ended up using SRT and MRT with absolutely no overall impression of superiority for either systems. But, for any given job or situation... one or the other will just shine, and feel right. I'm fearless about trying new stuff. The downside is, I have more crap than I do places to keep it all. I don't care, though. Life is a carnival ride. If the ups and downs are too much for you, just live a boring life in front of a big screen TV, eating Fritos and drinking cheap beer.

Give the easiest, cheapest SRT stuff a try, first. You'll probably be emptying the Beer Fund Piggy to buy an Akimbo, anyway... just give in to the insanity. There's no point to fighting it. A shiny, new pickup truck will not make tree climbing fun. Bags of gear will.

I climbed Ddrt/mrs for most of my climbing life. Just got into srt last year. From day one the advantages and disadvantages were vary apparent. Now I am 90%+ srt. Before I invested a bunch of money into srt gear, I climbed srt 1 day on an oval vt. Accualy, I used a ring not an oval biner, but same effect. Very small investment to see if I was into it. Its not the most efficient way to srt, but it gave me a taste and turned me to srt instantly. I haven't used an oval vt hitch since then, but if you use the search you can probably find info on how to tie it. I think @Brocky invented it and posted info on it on this forum. For a guy who climbed 16 years ddrt, it was an awakening. It renewed my love of climbing and revolutionised my technique. Definitly a lot to learn as far as safe practices and new techniques. New things being invented every day. Study up before you try it, make sure you understand what is safe and what can go wrong. Try anything new low and slow. And if you use the oval vt, use a good heat resistant hitch cord and check it to make sure it is taking the heat and friction well. I burned a quarter of the way threw an all poly cord before I noticed it was happening.
