Climbed on this Siberian Elm today to remove the pictured lead. My thought is it was struck by lightning some time ago.
I climbed about halfway on this one with spurs, then my gut said to tie in on a nearby lead before I continue. Toss Capt Hook and transfer to another lead of same tree, ascend and establish TIP, Capt Hook back to bad stem and ascend as far as I can, as I’m getting ready to cut, the wind is starting and I feel the lead torque and crack. Oh fuck! Cut quick and loose some weight and elevation. Took these photos on my way down. Glad my TIP wasn’t on this lead.
