Today’s climb. Lightning Struck lead?

Climbed on this Siberian Elm today to remove the pictured lead. My thought is it was struck by lightning some time ago.

I climbed about halfway on this one with spurs, then my gut said to tie in on a nearby lead before I continue. Toss Capt Hook and transfer to another lead of same tree, ascend and establish TIP, Capt Hook back to bad stem and ascend as far as I can, as I’m getting ready to cut, the wind is starting and I feel the lead torque and crack. Oh fuck! Cut quick and loose some weight and elevation. Took these photos on my way down. Glad my TIP wasn’t on this lead.

Some days, those things are my worst nightmare. There's millions of them here, in Nebraska. Sometimes you have other leads that are close enough and vertical enough to tie into, and sometimes there's nothing either nearby or even vaguely vertical.

I consider them to be noxious weeds. Oh, and yeah... those things and cottonwoods are lightning magnets!

Am I the only one that thinks that lead was probably pretty cool looking? The lightning strike was a long time ago, and it doesn't look like it was over a house or anything. Some reduction could have given it a chance to not break out before being a big gnarled trunk.

Not pretending I know all the details, that was just my gut response.

It was neat, but it was over a kids batting cage. There are other branches in that weed of a tree that will fill in the gap.

All of the weight was on the top and adding #200 (with gear) to the upper half caused it to start to fail, so not much margin for it to survive.

I am not accusing you of being racist Mower, but whether from a movie of not its a extremely racist word which a very long, and very ugly history. This is one of the last remaining arb forums that has steered clear from allowing that kind of bullshit, and I for one would like to keep it that way!

Your so tough lol...why are u doing this in the thread. If you care so much pm me....that goes for anyone else. Because to clarify what Rico suave is talking about I cannot and will not use the words here in a public thread. But to "own it" like Rico wants me to, ill clarify this without sayying too much.

Simply put, there is a huge difference between a quote and using my own words. And most importantly, there's an even bigger difference between the n word that finishes with an "er" and the one the finishes with an "a".

Your last argument is utter fucking nonsense. To prove my point I would ask you to head on down to the black area of town and start using your version of the word with an A on the end of it. Please let me know how that works out for you, and some pictures of your wounds would be awesome.

This is crazy man wow....I really can't believe this. I'm a big fan of your work and your writing. I know for a fact you'd be all good if you would just talk to me for a sec. There's absolutely nothing good coming out of this when you choose to keep doing this here in the thread.
