Sena comm systems

How many of you like the helmet comm systems. Going to buy a couple pairs checking on the best type

@tryc

Welcome to the Buzz. There is a recent thread on this topic. Use the search function to look it up. The helmet comm systems are great when they work, and generally take a bit of TLC to set up and maintain. There are no pure systems out there yet, but lots of useable ones. I depend on them during infrequent crane removals, but find them too complex to keep track of in between. Hth...

I really enjoy having mine, even when working solo. The ability to make phone calls, or even hear my phone ring when I need to take a call. Most of the time while working by myself it is used for listening to music. When working with others you can communicate without yelling.

The first day I had it, my wife called me while I was stump grinding. She said she could not even hear the grinder running. I currently use the Sena smh10

How many headsets do you plan on having? We just have two, and never have to re-sync. Just turn them on and tap the button to talk to the other headset

I’m running the peltor lite comm’s.. deals can be had on fee bay, the head bands type work just by carefully cutting the wire out

I'm not a technophobe so it may be a bit of a challenge for me to set up hopefully it'll be worth the money
On my last crew, out of 6 ppl 4 of whom were full time..I was the only one who had a decent understanding off them.. not one of them could grasp how they worked other than on/off.. Anytime they disconnected it was a fiasco of who thinks they know how to get them working.. ***yeah just keep smashing buttons till something connects*** .. Meanwhile making any forward progress in re-pairing a moot exercise.. It was really frustrating.. However, if i could get them not to touch anything, i could get them reconnected & were a blessing to have.

There are tons other options out there, everyone says there isn't.. but.. mobile comms are everywhere in the military, aeronautics, mining, etc.. & have been for ever.. I can also garantee none of those trades or branches of military are hot-wiring some half assed solution into a helmet & having them impossible to operate in the field.. for some reason this is what got popular within our industry.

Personally these sena units are overpriced for what they are & even so, id rather pay more for something that works everytime then something may or may not & is too difficult for the common schmuck to figure out..

Just Google ''hands free comms''..

Sena 10R here. Two sets on my crew mounted to Kask helmets. Work great, turn them on and they connect instantly. I also do some work with a crane and talked him into getting some. They have proved very valuable. So much so that the last job we did together he forgot it on his kitchen table, he made his wife bring it out. Its such a safety issue not having them that we wont work without them anymore. It becomes critical when the crane guy cannot see the climber. I also use it when I'm solo to take calls and listen to music.

Had Sena SMH10, croaked after about a month. Sena has carefully crafted a return/warranty process that makes it unlikely they will ever have to see or deal with a faulty unit, because the required documentation and procedure is so frustrating most folks will just throw up their hands and eat the loss.

I just start my 3rd warranty claim in 3 months...its not too bad! Lol...first set lasted about 4 years...2nd set 3 months, bought set 3 when a unit from 2nd fried. Knew it wouldnt be fast turn around...took about a month and half. Then a new one fried, yesterday the other unit from batch 2 fried. I dont think their quality is there anymore.
