Quick question for you srt guys.

What setup would you use to ascend 30m up a fixed rope as fast as possible without using a powered ascender??

If you are a bit heavier above the waist like some of us older chaps then add a chest roller to keep you upright and more relaxed, with no strain on your arms to hold you to the rope. Your multiscender will ride above the roller and self advance. You can run up the rope hands-free if your leg muscles hold out for 30m.

Cheers guys was thinking along those lines.
A company we sub contract to is a major sponsor of the red bull event here this year and is hoping to have some representatives from it at the comp. really not our scene or style of climbing however

It's the only way in today's world of rapid rope access, unless you want to cheat and use a machine!

Question for you guys on this... when you through in the chest roller do you set that below your friction hitch? Anyone have pictures of their setup? Anyone use double handled ascenders?

Yeah, have your hitch/RW, whatever on a longer tether or an adjustable rope bridge run out a bit so the hitch or device rides right on top of the chest roller and then it is self-tending.

Yes, it really saves a lot of energy if you are older and heavier above the waist (like me). Otherwise it is a constant fight to not tip over backwards, very exhausting. But other than on ascent, I find a chest roller is of less use when moving around in the canopy. once up in the tree. They don't weight much and I don't really notice it once I have worn it for a while. So it is no problem to still have it on once it is unhooked from the rope after ascent. The roller piece also has holes on the lower edge which makes a great place to hook the SAKA bungee.

Check out the videos on FB from this year's ascent event. You'll see some of the climbing systems

I seen a guy run up 50ft in 9.3 secs at NAOM. His name was Luke Glines from Colorado. He just finished 6th at the NATTC. He is 51 I believe. Age is just a number. No chest roller. I am 51 and do 12s consistently with little effort. 40 more feet is a walk in the park with a little concentration keeping things smooth. Ascending on rope these days with a knee ascender like the SAKA is just so easy.....

We had a 22 sec 80’ ascent this past weekend at the PNW TCC.

FYI. Innermountain has pressured rock exotica to bring back the chest rollers!!
That's good news. They are beautifully made, very high quality. I don't climb without mine any longer. It takes so much of the exertion and exhaustion out of a climb of any real height. With a SAKA and foot ascender, and the line through the roller, I can walk up the rope hands free.

Where does one find chest rollers nowadays?
