Hey @Fatguyclimber I bought the HH2. Not looking to get rid of it, interested in playing wth it. My first thoughts are it's a little hard to ascend, but very nice descending.

My first time buying gear. I almost bought the hitch hiker 2 cause I was still figuring out my style and it can do srt and drt. I ended up getting the rope wrench cause there was so many good reviews on it. It’s to bulky, hard to add slack. And the biggest thing is that it only does srt. I need something that does both so I can work off of it. It’s the biggest mistake I made. Are you sure your not dressing your prusik to tight? Cause once you do it won’t untighten it will just get tighter. Same if your prusik gets dirty, and using the wrong hitch, it could be any of those. Try the vt or xt they both stay pretty loose. I had the same problem with my rope wrench. Try tending it with chest harness. I’ve seen videos of hh2 every one advances pretty smooth

Thanks, that was my guess after reading Dave's post. My first try, it was too long and slipped a little before grabbing. I probably over compensated when retying.

@Brocky; I'm going to leave a link in this post to another post I made some time ago that deals with the slack tending issue with the Hitch Hiker. It may not answer your concerns, but then again, maybe it will. I've written my thoughts up multiple times in different places, so forgive me for just posting a link to what I've already written. This post is too wordy and convoluted, but hopefully some of what I've said will make some kind of sense. Please read the post all the way to the bottom. Thanks.

Tim

Edit: 8-25-2018, 8:50am. The short version is that you have to sit hard into your saddle with a really tightly tied hitch a few times, to get the hitch to "set" and subsequently tend slack easily. At least that has been my experience.

The hitch on that can be tricky, and once you find the sweet spot can be hard to duplicate. I keep my stopper knot tied on one side and I have marked the cord with an ink pen where the other knot should go. Makes it easier once you've dialed it in to retie it later.

maybe you've tried this, but if you want to work off of doubled rope after your ascent, you can tie a doubled rope system and switch the wrench over to the standing part of the line. That way it does not add friction and is also not flopping around. Keeps you from having to take it completely off and retying your hitch.
