retracting reels

If the reel was attached to the ascender, like right on the flat side, it be worth buying a third knee ascender

Here's some footage of the retractable reel knee ascender in action at an open ascent competition a few weeks ago. I placed second....and i couldn't have done it without the thing. It's a fast piece of gear, especially on the right rope.

Congratulations wyatt spruck for your performance! Very impressive.

Here is one I made with a Camp Turbo Foot and a Key-Bak Securit reel. It works well with either the 13oz or 20oz pull reel. Overall weight is just under 6 ounces.

I'm new to tree climbing and made this before I discovered this thread and realized I wasn't the only one thinking along these lines.View attachment 52291View attachment 52292
Was is the cord length on the 20oz version?
I'm looking to do the same as your setup but I'm not sure which model to buy.
What is the model number I should be looking for?

For some reason, I think there may be a better option than the key-bak for sale on Treebay.

I bought the xtreme duty key-bak. It lasted a couple days thetn I went back to the bungee. The speed and strength was fairly underwhelming.

It's the Securit Xtreme duty model and it has a 28" long cord. I can't find the model number but searching that should bring it up.

Buckinham must be following this. They just came out with a retractable lanyard holder thingy that breaks away at 50lbs. Selling it for around 80 bucks

Update on the 16’ Stanley tape, first one pictured on the left I’ve put it through a ton of ascents and its still pulling strong. Fresh build on the right for a co worker, he’s waiting to dial it in with his chest harness but it pulled well on the bench- even with this heavy ass ascender!

I'm running a SAKA mini with the Key Bak Extreme Duty. My rope is a Blue Moon.

So far, I like it better than with the bungee. Time will tell as far as longevity, although their Web Site claims tested to a million cycles.
