ronin powered ascender

Actually arbs are invited to bring all their cool tools here because I never get to demo a damn thing! If I want a demo, I either drive for hours or just buy the thing and demo it myself!

If I am not mistaken they will be coming to TCI in november as well as some other east coast stops during the fall. I too have no affiliation with the company, I think they are really on to something even if its only to set your ropes, it will save time, which we all know is worth more than money.

I spoke with NiceGuyDave (Wesspur) about the Ronin. He bought one, to test it out, as that is part of what he does. He gave a solid thumbs down. saying that, besides it not being mid-line attachable, and having expensive proprietary batteries, it eats ropes. I trust Dave's opinions and will pass on the Ronin. That said, here's a video of Burrapeg's device. Now it rocks, and I will be obtaining the components and fabbing one up. After that, my 10 yr old Wraptor might be for sale, it is that good! I only uploaded the vid to FB so far, so sorry if the liny no worky..

Thanks for the kind words, Roger. A number of us built these and I did not come up with the concept myself. A fellow on here named Santiago had the original idea and several of us ran with it. I own a machine shop and small foundry so I have sort of an unfair advantage when it comes to tinkering! Anyway, thanks for shooting the video and sharing it. It was neat seeing you again at the competition Sunday.

"There's no walnuts in this tree".. lol, no schite, Rog.. that be an oak....

I love it when you guys get a hold of an idea and make it your own. I really enjoy seeing all the versions of the R500 drillcender. @Burrapeg probably has the nicest one. He came up with the idea for a holder to keep the drill from spinning. I still need to add that to mine.

I would never want to buck the system, but I can understand, as if you do not see the videos that they released recently on facebook, I too was just as confused......
I saw corey the arborist video on youtube where he killed the rope before going up at all, but I would say that he should have had better instruction and it was not his fault. As I also watched bishops video on loading the rope and that did not help me (think box of rocks). Then I thought I would google ronin rope load, and praise jesus I found this link
https://www.facebook.com/changeyour...ft-rope-loading-instruction/1001795506640440/

Watched the video, switched from my sterling superstatic2 to tuef xstatic and followed the video even with a unburnt end that I pulled the tape off it worked like a charm. Tension knob requires a greater level of understanding and I am sure they are already working on videos to address that. If the tension knob is too loose and my fat ass is hanging from the rope trying to make it keep going up... clearly it is going to remove the sheathing. I believe the folks behind this are climbers literally turning the powered ascender world upside down for their love of climbing. As many of you old timers as I see loving your bucket trucks I would think it would be a welcome opportunity compared to the closest option of the wraptor (which is also genius but not economical for a small operation). Ive literally used my remote control winch as my ground guy, if youre wondering what I consider small :)

correction that video was posted 4 months ago, so they had already addressed it.

Also, should you be anywhere between Charlottesville and VB area of Va. I would love to let you too see how great this thing really is. Hit me up and we can coordinate a demo. I too am not in any way sponsored by this company, but will vouch for the honor in their actions, and I know what that means to those of you on this forum.

I'm in Newport News, but I think I'll stick with my Wraptor. If you have never tried a Wraptor, send me a PM and perhaps we can schedule a joint demo.

I bought the xstatic line like suggested by the Ronin guys (by the way...great customer service over all and great warranty). I have found no, NO, rope damage whatsoever. I was a little leery about descending on the machine without power down and could not see how it could NOT damage the rope as I envisioned it sliding off the drives. But once you go down 5 or 10 feet using the brake to rappel you become very confident nothing negative is happening inside the machine by the feel and sound of it.

Playing with it at my lot.

So glad I have mine. Tomorrow, I have 14 trees to crown raise (first branches at about 50ft). Ronin to rescue...

And before the trolls come out - I Know how to climb, drt, SRT, spiderjack, Blake’s, roperunner etc etc. Have frog walking systems up the wazooo. Pushing the little red button forward and getting to the first branch in a few unsweaty seconds is fab!

Laters.
