Show off them splices

You should try crossing the tails so you get a consistent diameter.

Really hits the premium switch then.

Looking Good either way.

After thinking about it a bit I think I get it. You are suggesting that I overlap the tails inside the core and taper them so the area of overlap is the same diameter as the rest of the rope between the rings? A bit more work and some extra rope, but no real difference in strength of the splice?

Here is one with the tails overlapped and tapered. I have to admit that it does look prettier, but it is a heck of a lot more work! I gotta quit now because I used up all my new rings.

This is how I make my ultraslings (tails tapered and overlapped). I found that after loading them, the tails pull apart a bit and create slimmer spots in the sling. Kinda looks weird but it's not a huge deal. I like to put a bit of chafe sleeve over that area for wear anyhow. I'll try to find a pic

I think that is one of the best rigging tools ever. I still like the big steel rig vs a large eye, but either way that sling does work!

I was back in forth on deciding whether I should put the steel ring on or not. I decided to go with the eye because I wanted the option of having a soft connection for a block. I like the ABR rings a lot. I have three more sitting in my basement waiting to get spliced.
