Rope Wrench, without incident.

Reg that video was awesome. I cant believe or what it seemed to look like is you just had one foot ascender. Thats a seems like a good workout and a hard way up. Cheers on the humor as well haha.
I had a hand ascender too. Underneath is never a good camera angle.

So you use a hitch climber pulley then. Well that sucks going to have to figure that setup out.

Hey, Magnum! See this post of Reg's on page 4 of this same thread. Here's the link. http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/threads/rope-wrench-without-incident.32334/page-4

It shows Reg's pulley in two different photographs. I think it might be this particular pulley.

Although this one might be cheaper, and work just as well.

These are both two-hole pulleys, and if I'm reading Reg right, he uses the top hole of the two in order to tend the Rope Wrench.

That's all I have for now.

For
Two best pulleys I've found for the RW are the ISC and the CT one. They both have room for the stiff tether and the pulley sheave is close to the rope when everything is put together. I actually like the CT one the best, but both are good, and both match the red RW's color almost exactly. I also have found that the Skywalker and Hitchclimber pulleys affect performance a bit, because the sheave is further away from the rope (sheave axle to centerline of carabiner attachment holes distance is greater). Not an issue with DdRT hitchclimber setup, but for a lanyard adjuster and with the RW, having the sheave closer to the rope/attachment hole works better.

For me nothing beats the CT pulley....with a CT oval...works a charm...3 wrap 3 braid VT for me....wrench is my hands down fav tool...

@Magnum783 , you can simply make a small loop of Throwline and girth it around the bottom eye of your Rope Wrench tether, right where the tether is captured in between the pulley plates. This little Throwline loop will hang nicely at just the perfect place to tend from...nice and low on the system, flexible, no need to twist or reorient anything, and totally unobtrusive.
This is the only way I would ever tend a wrench with my chest harness...my HAAS goes on the pin at the back of the CT pulley....works a treat

I have tried many other devices and systems over the years, yes. But the RW is the only one Ive used without incident....like the thread title suggests.

To elaborate further: 1 carabiner does the whole thing....one gate. A spliced eye hitch that self configures on any climbing line. Its pretty much a closed system that needs no tweaking, particulars or super vigilance thereafter. You put it on and get to work. I can drag branches across it, bang it with my elbows, or whatever. I am free to work with the reassurance that Im not going to move without putting a positive grip around the hitch cord. And even then, there's a little delay while the wrench re-aligns itself in an upward position and creates a drag on the rope.....the transition from being stationary to moving is smooth. I like that. Unlike some other set-ups, where the transition is instant....and often you'll need your spare hand on the tail end of you line as backup. I dont like that so much. The RW is ones handed all the way, without any thought, practice or special tricks.

Other climbers undoubtedly have their own values and preferences, which is is fair enough. But I'm only speaking for myself, not them. I hope that's a good enough answer for you. Thanks

In reading through this thread for at least the second time, I had the thought that this post is the single best post I've ever read on a forum. That is all.

I have to agree Tim....always said a wrench is by far my fav device....runner when seasoned to a particular rope is great too...till shit starts wearing then back to square one getting a combo right...wrench to me is always an easy tool to get a good combo

Same as hitch hiker knot

Thanks for pointing this out. I'm just re-reading this thread, and there are all kinds of interesting posts in it that escaped my attention first time round.

Reg's favorite way to tie a hitch, after reading his description of the way that he ties it, seems really simple and straightforward. And for some unknown reason, probably just being stupidly stubborn, I never gave that hitch a shot with the Hitch Hiker (like the instructions spelled out to do). I guess I had just become fond of the Knut hitch by the time I got the Hitch Hiker.

I intend to give Reg's hitch (and Paul Cox's) a go the next time I climb. That's all for now.

HC pulley with the tether in theView attachment 37154 top hole, easy access to the center hole for tending or a lanyard.
Im a little late on this but your setup looks perfect. Could you explain in more detail how your tether is made and how it is attached.
Thanks

You know you may actually already been doing that. The VT is made from a V and T. meaning that it is made of wraps and braids. When you put wraps above the hitchhiker they stay that way but inevitably if you put them above a pulley at least one will roll out and turn into a braid maybe more thus back to a VT.
