Just got my onyx in today! Got to hang from a beam in the house and get everything adjusted pretty well. No time to climb in it today but I am pretty sure I am gonna like it alot. May have a few small tweaks to make yet. My only gripe is the carabiner slots are way too wide. The paddle biners flop around alot. Guess I'll try one of those new tool hooks from rock exotica when they come out.
Crappy pic but here goes nothing...

Forgot about the dmm. When does it hit the market?

I picked up a small caritool at the local shop, they didn't have large. I am not really that impressed. I certainly wouldn't hang a big saw on a piece of plastic and I also found I do not like that it's black as it completely blends in with the saddle. I moved it to the back for some lighter duty use. Oh well it was worth a shot. For now the paddle biner stays and I will just work on my technique on clipping the saw.

I hang all my saws on the caritools. Hung a 3120 on there yesterday with a 42" bar. I've only ever had the gate snap on one, but I liked it and kept it that way. I run one gated Caritool on my right, one un-gated on the left. Makes for easier transitions

That eases my mind on the plastic. I would have steam coming out of my ears if several hundred dollars of saw hit the ground due to one breaking.
I'm assuming you are using the large one?
I've also looked at the shembiner but think I would feel better about having a gate of some sort, as I dont use a lanyard on any saw.

I keep is simple. Just grab anything I may need before I go up (redis, second frambium saver (cambium/friction saver in ONE WORD HAHAHAH) chainsaw lanyard, maybe a game boy or somethin.

Caritools suck! They do break, usually at the most inopportune moment. I when with Climb Right HMS accessory biner and haven't looked back.

That's what I'm afraid of. Too much hard earned money in saws to be hanging off a piece of plastic. Not to mention the possibility of dropping one on someone or something else valuable.
I think I'll stick to the climbright paddle biner for now. The dmm and rock exotica hooks are tempting but I'll bet they are gonna be a bit pricey.

Been using a shembiner for just a few days now - it's really good but not perfect - it is quicker/easier to stow/retrieve saw, though sometimes things get caught in it, and if you're descending in a tree with many branches - sometimes it pops out of the shembiner; I have a saw lanyard though. I know that some can clip/unclip one handed from a biner - I'd like to know what sort of biner they're using? - As I could never manage it.

To be honest I'm really surprised that nobody seems to have invented an accessory biner that the gate can have an 'open' setting and then you press a tab or something and then it closes. That's what I want. Then after that, I want someone to invent the silent chipper. : )

I use a caritool. I clip the little metal clip piece on the saw right to the caritool, muffler side to my leg. To unclip, pick saw up and twist it and it pops right off. I imagine you can do the same motion with a paddle biner

I've been toying with the idea of lanyard with a slider instead of a ring. I'm thinking that it might be easier to control one handed then a soft lanyard and a flopping ring.

I think you're onto something there monkey - at least if the piece of the lanyard at the saw end had some sort of straight, strongish/flexible material (ala saka, ect) - that might help for those currently having trouble with the micro biner they have opposite their saw snap/clip in going floppy all the time (my next question). You'd need to explain your lanyard with a slider to me in more detail - I can't quite picture/understand it right now.

Thanks Reed - My boss only has one big husky though (and around 20 stihls).

I think being able to put the saw up one handed is important but to take it off the biner doesn't seem so vital to me. You need two hands to start the saw and run it (supposed to anyway).
I use these short bits of cord and some rings off of an old saddle and can one hand either way, although I like to be able clip the small wire ring on with the top handle as I don't have to change my grip. This is were a hook that won't rotate is ideal. I have messed with rotating the saw to unclip one handed and it just seems a bit akward. Maybe it's one of those things that comes with practice.
