Slic pin mods

Has anyone found a way to make the ZK2 slic pin lose proof\ drop proof? I'm revamping my wrench\tether system and I have a way to marry every part together except for the slic pin. I'm unfamiliar with the interior of the pin, but I'm thinking I may be able to drill a small hole in the top and tap it for a small eye bolt.....anyone have a better idea?
 
Hey JTee, good luck with your project. I'm interested in your outcome.

I've though about this and connected my pully to tether with some 3mm cord, but backed away fearing I'd get something caught and introduce a safety risk. Plus the parts were harder to manage than loose.

Dreaming of a RW system being more all-in-1 like the RR, CDB.

Back to slic pins now :) (not a topic I'm up on)

Point taken mac, but if it's possible for me to lose something, I usually find a way. Usually it comes off in my ditty bag or gear bag while stored with a bunch of other stuff. I've always found it afterwards, but the day will come.
 
JT, I have not tried it but maybe an external snapring. The pin holes are pretty small on them but you might find some steel fishing leader to feed though them. I am thinking about it laying against the head if that was unclear. You would also need to make sure the Slic pin still engages correctly.

On a 1/2" 48-carrier kernmantle. Rope won't fit through there unless I pull it out. But everything else I've shoved in there will go past. The 1/2" 16 strands will go through, but I have to compress it a bit and wiggle it past. That damn kernmantle just won't compress enough! Probably a moot point, though. It's also so fat, there's a lot of friction. Unless one of the other hitch cords I ordered works better with it, I might not be able to use the wrench with it, anyway.

But still, I like the idea of tethering it... I, too, have a knack for losing things and cursing the Tooth Fairy or yard gnomes or anything else I think might be conspiring against me.

Thanks, monkeylove... I believe you've hit on the obvious "no drilling needed" solution! I think there's plenty of slop in the SLIC pin for one to easily fit in there.
 
Solid, ML! I wonder if one of the clips I have laying around might work. I think the lock would still go, as there is a tiny amount of extra clearence between the lock and body of the wrench.....and a little JB weld would make it less likely to ever come off, OR I could cut a small groove for a ring to seat in against the head. I agree that the holes are small, but snap rings come in different shapes....maybe I could make a larger hole if the ring had extra meat to it.
 
Staying with the fishing theme you might find a snap swivel that will fit unto the hole also. No need to go in both, one is more than enough to attach some thread to.
 
Thinking about it some more....there is realyy no need for going through the hole with anything other than thread. If you loop the thread a few times and then used plasti-dip or melted a little plastic over the end of the clip and the head area you could enclose the whole assembly which should stop any chance of the ring cuttung the thread over time.
