zigzag plus with 12.5mm rope

how good zigzag pluse 2019 work with 12.5mm rope.

There's going to be more friction so it won't move as smooth and easy as it would with a thinner rope.
What type of construction is the road?
A 16 strand will have more friction than a 24 strand double braid or a kermantle bc the cover isn't as smooth...
How long have u been climbing for? If you haven't been climbing for long then you might like more friction but I personally like a thinner 24 strand in the 11mm-11.7mm range.

I have a hard time believing you can even get the zig zag on that rope. I had a hard enough time getting it on my 11.7mm kernmantle rope.

I’ve used a true 13mm 16 strand before. Not ideal, but doable.

Petzl says their patented eye splice on Control 12.5mm rope will go through the Zigzag, so the plain rope should be fine. They have a video of the procedure on their website.

I use my zz plus on half inch samson 16 strand arbormaster and on 11.7 24 strand Yale blue moon. It works great on both with no adjustments of any kind. Maybe just a bit smoother on the blue moon, but smoother and less hassle and adjustment than a FRICTION hitch on both ropes. Out of the box perfect. Couldn't be more pleased.

Yup. What he said. I didn’t like it as compared to a smaller diameter. Didn’t self tend well at all.

Good point about self tending. I do have to tug the tail a bit with the half inch arbormaster, but it doesnt bother me.

I should have been clearer. I was speaking of no adjustments necesary with different size ropes ive used the zz on, as opposed to a device like the rope runner, which i also liked using but i like the zz better. I needed to adjust the rope runner when changing ropes, and i dont with the zz. But like you say the zz doesnt have any capability for adjustment.

I have used Samson Arbormaster with the zig zag and it's difficult just to get it on the rope.

I have a 16 strand arbormaster with alot of natural crotch with prusik climbs on the rope and couldnt get it in my regular zigzag. I use 24 strand 11.7 bluemoon with the zag and it works beautifully. That line has been used with rings only and no prusik. My favorite ride down is on my arbormaster on natural crotch with my 10mm armor prus splittail with 5 (2 top&3bottom)wraps. Extremely fast, smooth and controllable. Love that ride.

Ive had my zz on my 16 strand arbormaster for several months. I just leave it on the rope between climbs. When i first got it i heated the non eye splice end of my rope and rolled a slight taper into it. This makes it easier to get on the zz, but it is still a little more difficult than putting it on 11.7. Im just a big fan of arbormaster. Feels right in my hand and very durable. But if you dont have a preference for rope the 11.7 is probably a better rope for the zz.
