Your lanyard?

I'm rethinking some stuff. Have it narrowed down to about 75 different style combinations. Not good. So please help me out.

Describe the safety lanyard you climb with the most.

Rope type... Length.... Means of adjustment.... carabiners/snaps... Knotted or spliced...

About the only thing I have settled on is that length...nothing less than 16 feet.

Currently using 7/16 inch double braid 24 strand with a spliced eye.

As for adjusters I've run a Trango Cinch, Grigri and prussic with a minding pulley. Haven't found one I love yet and am presently using a valdotain as the hitch and running the tail of the lanyard through the biner to tend the hitch.

Usually I use a 1/2" x 12' steel core with gibbs ascender for the adjuster. I can release some slack into the system reasonably well, but not under full body weight with the lanyard crotched above me.

For sketchy trees, I use an piece of a Hi-vee climbline that got knicked, so cut down. I use a hitch like a VT with no stopper knot if I'm going to lanyard into anything unstable. I can then slip the friction hitch and pulley off of the end if the lead that I'm lanyarded into were to fail. As well, it is somewhat cut-able. Have to be super aware of the tail while working without the stopper. Of course I've got a good climbline TIP

Just picked up a 20' trango cinch. It's a 10mm beeline which I need to get used to. I like the easy of adjustment with the cinch. The length gives me a mini climb line for quick double TIPs and working on large diameter stems.

I have a 2 in 1 for working conifers. Nice for getting up them fast while always being tied in.

I use a 12' blue moon with a cordura chafe sleeve, what is it? 11.7mm I think? a tight eye splice on both ends, ISC snap on one end,10mm beeline eye and eye also tight eye spliced for adjusting, linked with a micro pulley to an AM'D to make it all smooth.

heck you know Luke, I got all the stuff from you ;)

25ft of KMIII 11mm
Triple fishermans on one end. Steel snap
Adjuster is Tenex eye-eye. French Prussic w/micropulley
Tail end is tied with double fishermans. Screw gate biner which gets attached to my saddle.
Just picked up NE Tech cord for mini prussic for cinching lanyard in a SRT mode.

That would be cool for a company to offer. Super long lanyard with friction hitch, biners, snap(or whatever) and some tech cord. Maybe ever throw on a chafe sleeve for Cary.

I cant believe that most of the arborist supply companies usually sell shorter lanyards and keep them very simple. It seems like companies offer a bunch of different climbing kits (from starter to advanced) but they all offer the same crappy lanyards.

Neopro is my cord of choice for a lanyard. It is a 16-strand rope, which I am told wears better in natural crotch use than double braid. It is also the only 16 strand that comes in the 7/16" diameter, which makes it lighter. 16 strand is also easier for me to splice.

As an adjuster I like a friction hitch and micro pulley. I go back and forth between longer and shorter lanyards. A longer one 15'to 20' gets in the way a bit, but overall seems to be worth packing around when you need the extra length.

I know some suppliers will do custom work. John over at Knot & Rope Supply is great to work with!

Yeah, that is funny... a neopro lanyard is one of the things I'm considering... for the same reasons Jesse mentioned.

Too many options -- but I appreciate the help.

I also use a small climbing system. 25 ft Poison Ivy with tight eye, 2 amd biners one for tenex eye and eye the other for a snap , and a small swivel to tend. The tail goes through my fig 8 on an no locking biner and into my ditty bag on my saddle.

Just picked up a whole new setup. I was using a steel core with a US standard adjuster b4. I liked it but the lanyards cost about $80 and always tend to wear out quick with the cable running throught the rope cover.

Switched to the more expensive ART adjuster, and a 1/2" arbormaster climbing line with a tubular sleeve around half of it for added protection. Light weight, and very quick to change out ropes to a longer lanyard if i choose. Just buy a longer climbing line and cut off some 20ft or so to have your choice of different lengths. ISC snap with DFL and thimble.

Velocity spliced, 25', VT 24" HRC spliced hitch, William D petzlwith a micro, and a exotica biner that operates the other way than the William D.

Then a snap on the other end (I had two but I cut the one off to change to a biner) It was suppose to be two sided and then switched around to be the second side once the first side wore down. If that makes sense. Bah a picture would best explain it. Too bad my gear is at work.

25 footer velocity on a trango cinch, connected with crab so i can move to my bridge, tight eye spliced with a thimble to a red aluminum rope snap. also have a 5.5 mm 6 coil prussuk cord for srt lanyard abilities

10 foot wirecore safety orange with petzl micrograb with a carabiner for attachment of micro grab to D ring.

works well and if the rope get a little worn fron the micro grab I start to use the other side (reverse the system)

inexpensive and strong

pray for a good crop but keep hoeing

i have a pruning lanyard and a removal lanyard
Pruning: 16ft of 11mm static line with krab. knots.

removal: 16ft of three strand with steel snap and prussic.
the three strand is nice because it never gets gummed up with sap and such. i spliced this one with a steel snap, and a aluminum ring on the other end.

Bear with me and I'll shoot a picture of one of the custom SESA lanyards I like to make for my friends... and Easyphloem.

Lately I use Velocity because it's supple and easy to splice. I put a CTI aluminum snap on one end and make a soft adjuster with a Petzl Am'D, HRC and a trigger snap to tend the slack.

I've done the same with 10mm Beeline. It's nice and light and easy to flip but the cover gets tatty real quick like.

I wish I could splice 10mm Sterling HTP, I think it would rock as a lanyard.
