Yet another SRT question

I was wondering what diameter static line everyone uses for SRT.

My background is rock climbing and have been in the tree industry (climbing) for 2 1/2 years and based on my climbing experience, I like to shave weight any way possible.

I noticed that PMI has a 10mm classic professional static line that comes in at MBS 6070(lbf). The 11mm in the same style is MBS 6070 (lbf) as well. I think that the difference is in the sheath, at least that's what PMI says.

Just thinking that the 10mm might run smoother through a GriGri when using the RADS system.

Any of you guys have experience with this 10mm line? I have used the 11mm and found it to be "ok".

Thanks,

Thanks Tom and Chris,
What about Sterling HTP? I want to try using a static coupled with the Tachylon for a double ascender system.

Static line around TIP down to a butterfly knot, Tachylon attached to the butterly for Doubled Rope, haul butterfly back up to TIP and then I'm ready to go....

Did I explain that right?

I'm using 11mm Sterling HTP in a RADS. 11mm meets the spec for the RIG but the 10mm does not. Both meet the spec for the GG & GG2. Tried both but I like feel of the 11mm a little better - just a personal preference.

Thanks SingleJack,
Have you used a GriGri2 on the 11mm?

I have not. I REALLY want one, but the rec climbers over on Canopy Chatter are not liking the GG2 very much so I haven't bought one yet ... guess I'll wait 'til the dust settles ...

Donny,

i think that you're describing a floating false crotch. Will you have a pulley on the butterfly/static line for the DdRT Tachyon?

there's no reason that won't work. I wonder if the cost of the HTP is worth it rather than using a climbing rope that you already have. From a performance standpoint I don't think that there is much gain.

Hey Tom,
I don't think it's a floating FC. Mark C. uses it on occassion. He footlocks up both lines with a dual ascender. He said that you don't need a back-up (prussik) above the ascender since they are both indepentent of each other.

Hey Mark,
What length of static are you normally carrying around. I'm in central PA, not too much different from Jersey trees as far as height and canopy. I assume that you have to triple your length for that particular "no name" set-up.

Donny

how about this. use a prussik with a micro pully. have your normal Ddrt system running off the pully and footlock up. this way you can adjust the length of your footlocking tether by simply adjusting your Ddrt system longer or shorter.

Hey Donny,
I do the RADS set-up once and a while. I use a 11mm KMIII with grigri and it works fine.

Mark, Could you point me to the thread that describes the set up above your talking about?

Thanks

no because ascenders are not for working off of, they are for ascending only. if the rope is shock loaded there is a risk the teeth of the cam will shred the rope. using a prussik allows to to work off the system since prussiks are slip and grab.

Hey Mark,
Am I correct that you will have to have around 180' to get a 60' TIP in a tree with that system, in order for the ground person to be able to get the climber to the ground?

Donny

You can attach another rope to extend the length if you are using a trunk friction wrap and will run out of length. If you are using a lowering device, you need to be able to get the rope out of the lowering device while maintaining control/ friction, or tie the two ropes together, and install the ropes in the lowering device with the knot just above the LD.
