WTB: rear mount bucket truck

Location
Lawrence
We need to buy a rear mount non-elevator bucket in the next few months.

The ideal truck would be automatic, 65' wh, short wheel base, diesel, and factory derated to <26k lb. We don't expect to get everything we want though. We are going to buy the nicest truck we can find that is as close to this as we can get.

Have cash. Prefer a private sale from a fellow reputable tree care company. If you are a dealer that spray painted the wheels we are not interested.

I would seriously consider at least pricing a new unit.
That was the original plan, and we still might go that way. I have gotten prices on four different units, all between 129 and 136. What really hurts is the $12,000 or so sales tax that we get to pay before we even fuel it up for the first time.

If we go used I am thinking in the 40 to 75 range. We would spend more on the right unit, but unless it is mint we might as well go new if we go to much higher than that.

Yeah but I don’t think it’s what he’s looking for was looking at a new rear mount but pulled the trigger on the cmc 83’ hd+ i get it first week of January might keep Bucket also not sure yet.

We are looking into the lift for this spring as well. I want to pull it with my log truck. Then, the crane crew can get most all jobs done with just three pieces of equipment onsite. Crane, log truck with lift, chip tuck and chipper.

All I know is that I see the prices used rear mounts are bringing (ridiculous)!!!!! I saw two 75'ers listed last week for over $130k- Before you even consider that, Id call UOS forestry......As far as track lifts go, Ive never run one and Im sure they have their place (if you own a bucket as well). Nice to have both but Im not sure Id want to be limited to just the track lift.

No kidding! I would love to be able to buy a used model, in very good condition, at half the cost of new, like you can get with a chip truck or chipper, but that doesn't seem to be commonly available.

We have a quote from them, they are in line with the others.

We bought a refurbished 03 60 yard rear mount grapple this summer from apex. I'm not that impressed, it a really nice truck and the boom is fantastic. But, if I could change in up, then I would buy the same truck with a new ride on loader and a new 55yard dump body that you could let the grapple over hang the rear of the bed. The thing about rear mounts in my area is hiding the grapple in the bed due to lower bridge heights. We had an older cab mounted truck with a non dumping 50 yard box that you could fill all the way up tight plus some and lay the boom on top with the grapple hanging over the back and never get over 13'4"! It felt like it held way more material. I wouldn't mind selling the rear mount for what I have in it. In the right market this would be a fantastic rig.

Personal experience ..... diesel. That's going to be a medium duty truck. I'm pretty sure they stopped putting gassers in those models by the late '80s, (exception: gen public rentals like UHAUL).

From everything I've read and understand ..... Terex.

We are still looking for a truck. Not seeing much used so we might end up going with a new one instead. I am trying to decide on gas vs diesel and Altec vs Terex vs Versalift. I made a thread in the Rubber Hits the Road forum asking for advice: Request for advice on new bucket, Altec vs Versalift vs Terex. Gas vs Diesel
