Any one have one to sell or leads? New with chip body is ~$80-100k, got a quote for a 9' aluminum chip box ~$28k installed. Cab and chassis gas f500 is $55-60k or so. Love the short wb for our area. Treetrader etc have 20yr old trucks for $30k, man I hate vehicle decisions vs equipment!

Don’t have one to sell, but I think you are paying far too much for your body. We put a new 12 foot aluminum dump body on a truck in 2020, custom toolboxes all over the place, completely custom build, and it cost us $14,000. Call the Gap Hill Aluminum Shop. See what they can do for you.

They look like used utility line clearance trucks. I bought one this summer and it has been working out ok.

2020 was many yrs of rampant cost increase, $150/hr mechanic now vs $100 then, my mini was $28k then and $40k now! I'll give them a call though, got another quote for a Voth ~$20k just the box and hoist.

Yes, prices definitely have gone up like crazy in the past five years. I’m sure that Gap Hill charges more than they did back then, but I’m not sure their prices went up quite as much as the rest of the market. I could be wrong. I haven’t priced anything there lately, and they are presently building a great big new shop.

Any guess what is the cause of the issue? Or what happened, to cause the issue? Maybe I can help troubleshoot if need be.
That is a very kind offer but I’ve been trouble shooting it since October. Got it running and my guy plowed the chip road but fell off of the side, lost the breaks, coolant, now it won’t start. I just use it as a plow truck and it has more rust than the Tittanic. Cause of all of the problems is one it’s a Ford, two it’s a 6.0, three mice, four vast amounts of rust, five electrical issues, six it’s scrap metal as far as I’m concerned.

Sounds like quite a few issues to say the least. The 6.0 is definitely known for having problems, the FICM is one of the biggest engine issues and one of the more common no start problems in that engine. It’s also very expensive, but maybe you can find one to borrow or get ahold of one from a junk yard to try out. Make sure it has the same pin configuration on the plug if you try, they made a couple different versions for the various years of that engine. I learned that the expensive way.

I have a '04 6.0 from VA which I had studded/deleted/head gasket etc before bringing it home. Few issues here and there (diesel anything is crazy expensive), had no-start after it was hot this Fall and had new HPOP and stand pipes put in. FICM and glow plugs a bit ago. Actually really like it and she drives super nice/fast, probably 3x more quiet than the '99 7.3 too!

We have an 03 6.0, head studs, deleted, new turbo, complete fuel system, FICM, and two transmissions. After all that, it turned into a great truck. If we hadn’t bought it for $1800, it would’ve been a very expensive truck to own. I bought it knowing it had most of those problems though, and fixed it knowing I could make it into a good truck. I still don’t plan to buy another though, I’ll stick to the new ones.

Certainly not meaning to derail, so slap me if this goes too far off.
I’m looking at a ‘93 7.3 idi with about 140k on the tach. It’s a f-250 so smaller rig that I’m just planning on ponying the 5k chipper or mini with.
Anything I should watch out for?

Make sure it doesn’t have too many oil leaks, and make sure that the transmission feels good. If it has an automatic, it probably has an E4OD, some of them were not the most reliable. If it feels like it shifts solidly, it should be in fine shape.

Love the square bodies, worth paying a quality tech or that era aficionado to look it over. Could get expensive quickly at that age. Crispy brake/coolant/trans lines and couplers, mouse eaten wiring, color/smell of exhaust and how quick it clears, cycle to start for glow plugs, boot conditions and cracking in engine bay.
