Worst lightning strike I've seen

Re: Worst lightning strike I\'ve seen

I used to work as a smokejumper.

In the late 1970's I jumped a fire with Jack W near Baker Oregon.

The strike blew apart two trees and they were just 15 -20 foot staubs left. Two other tree were also hit and had the usual spirals.

There was one splinter that was about 25 feet long and 2" x 6" in size stuck in the ground.

Trees hit were white fir about 14" to 24" in diameter.

Sounds pretty nasty.

Lightning struck trees are always scary, especially if they are left standing too long afterwards.

Tim Walsh through TCIA produced an awesome dvd with the help of Broad Oak Tree & Shrub Care, on the removal of a hazardous lightning struck tree. If you guys haven't seen this dvd - order it. The info it contains could save your life someday.

That's a nasty Ash Rob!

Chris, the worst lightning strike I've seen is the one Jerry put up of that Redwood "pile".

Yup, I agree with you too Mark after seeing those pictures that Jerry posted.

Can you imagine being around when that tree was hit?
