BRENTWOOD – A worker from an Exeter tree service company was injured this afternoon when he fell about 40 feet after a tree struck the boom on a truck and knocked him out of the bucket.
The 47-year-old worker from Goodrich Tree Service of Exeter appeared to suffer abdominal injuries in the accident at 10 Dalton Road, according to police Lt. David Roy.
The accident happened shortly after 1 p.m. at the home of Beatrice Bedlisle.
Roy said the worker was cutting a large pine tree when part of the tree fell and hit the boom. The impact “launched” the worker out of the bucket, which was raised in the air. The bucket broke off the boom and landed near the base of the tree.
The man, whom Roy said was working with another employee at the property, was rushed to Exeter Hospital. Roy said the worker’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Bedlisle said she had gone outside several times to check on the work, but was inside her house at the time of the accident. She came rushing out when she heard the worker fall.
“It’s a dangerous business,” she said as she watched police investigate the scene.
Representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were expected to arrive this afternoon to investigate the incident.
