Work Photos

Had some winds on Cape earlier this week. We don't often get storms producing a lot of damage, so of course now that we did, I had already conveniently planned a trip to Disney with my family and we left two days after. Later storm work! Haha

That looks so terrible. Is that wood screw mounted on a mini skid?

Sean is correct. It’s hooked to the front of my sk1050. On this project it was a necessity to break the stuff down so my dump site would take the material and to knock the concrete out... and of course so we could move the stuff!

Thanks does that setup work pretty well on a mini skid? Can you split up logs for the chipper (if they're not filled with concrete) or is it only something to use when you absolutely must?

It actually worked better than I expected. Once our set up is filled out that will be its exact use for the small to medium projects where we don’t have space to haul wood back, but have chip space. For now it’s a little bit of a pain to haul to the jobs.
I have a few short videos I could email if you wanted. I can’t get into my YouTube account to upload them.

That thing works great, it is on my list of wants. I could have used that today @flyingsquirrel25 , I almost called you to borrow it. Had to hand wedge a big stump down to manageable pieces today. Full of rocks, after 2 wrecked chains I grabbed the axe and a steel wedge.

Frank you know where I live! We will have to try it on the dingo sometime to see if there is enough hydro flow... and weight to hold it down. It certainly is much nicer than swinging a sledge at steel wedges. :risas2:

Nothing real big just a trim job we did. This tree was destroying the customer's roof and ripping up the shingles from the branches that were on top of the house. Initially I would have liked to get up on the roof and trim it back but the slant was too steep and the roof was so badly damaged I didn't think it was safe. So we just pieced the branches out. Used a hand saw for most of the stuff because there wasn't a lot of room and was just easier.

I always try to avoid using spurs when trimming but in this case I had to use them to get up in there. The little porch underneath me wasn't stable enough for anyone to stand on either.

Again nothing too big but right now I seem to be doing more pruning and trimming jobs than removals. This was a decaying branch we had to take down and there was a fence underneath and the house. Didn't realize how decayed the tree actually was until I got up in there. A lot of the branches were rotted. We start cutting 6 minutes in, everything leading up is just getting set up with rigging.

Was that an "atom splitter"? Just curious. I just this evening ran into a log that the mini didn't like. It was loaded by a full size skid steer but that wasn't available tonight while I cleaned up at my log pile. Would've loved to bust it in half and haul it to the fire pit but it lays there instead, taughting me.

Yes. Atom splitter hooked to a CID extreme auger on my DW SK1050. With very knarly wood it takes some time and focus to split but we have yet to find a piece it couldn’t break down.

No prices on the CID website. What does that auger run? Did you have them mount to a mini-universal plate?

It was just north of 1800 from my dealer. An extra 100 for the adapter cause I ordered the atom splitter before the auger. And he picked up the shipping as I have ordered a bunch from him. I would highly recommend the same set up though it allows for deeper splitting action. If the splitter was just attached to the auger you wouldn’t get anywhere near as far with it.

I saw a video of using it to break up a big uprooted stump. Might be useful for the odd, uprooted stump, such as a wind-thrown tree, in addition to trunk wood breakdown.

Have you tried stumps for any reason?

No not really. We did use it to break up the bottom piece of the trunk because I didn’t want to run the 36” bar through due to something stone like inside. So we used the 20” bar circled it, split it and circled it again.

Probably as bad as any stump was the top crotch section of this... I would rather not do that again! But it finally fell apart!
