Woodbury red oak.

Thanks Mike, I didn't count (as the tree was hollow) but it was probably pushing 100 years.

James, to the best of my knowledge, the crane has 90-95' boom.

...three legs... I felt really good about this pick. One of those that just floats there until the crane operator cables up! Really makes your day. One of Life's simple pleasures.

I'll second that. Nice work guys.

Actually, it comes in a 105' version also, I've been eyeballing one for my next unit. What I really like is the carrier: Sterling 9513 (no sex appeal but tighter turn radius then any other chassis)410 HP MBE engine, and the tranny is a low/low plus the usual 10 speed, and it has full rear end diff lockers and a 2 speed jake. Oh baby.........Plus factory installed wireless remote

a National 30 tonner comes in three boom lengths 69', 100' and 110'.

Just got off the phone with Amos, the crane operator...

2004 National 1300 with 95' of main boom.

Now, I'm an arborist and climbing nerd. So I'll leave the crane nerd stuff to you guys!

Chipper for the brush. Front end loader and dump truck for the logs.

Rakes for the sticks and blowers for the sawdust!

Stay away from the MBE engine, go for a CAT or Cummings nobody that I've talked to or heard of has had good luck with those Mercedes engines.

Interesting....around here (at the junction of two major interstates) all the heavy diesel mechanic's and truckers I've talked to had nothing but good to say about them, including the foreman at the Cat shop. So, Mercedes doesn't know how to build a reliable heavy diesel??? That seems like a pretty broad condemnation of a respected brand. Nonetheless, I appreciate the input. Frankly I'd rather go CAT, just havn't found the right combo yet.

Taylor, When can I get one of those rakes that you have? Those things are awesome! Call me when you have one and we will take it!

I agree, post a pic Taylor.

Maybe they just can't handle the cold weather up here, but whenever the local Western Star/Sterling dealer sends out a service truck they take along about $1000 worth of the washers that go on the injectors, and thats just the most common problem. Apparently if you do buy a Mercedes before you drive it off the lot you should change all of the high pressure fuel lines to aftermarket, but thats just the opinion of the mechanics here.
