Wildlife viewing from the canopy....

On a winter day we were working on the bluff above the St Croix River...MN/WI border. Just a moment after I pulled the release trigger on the Bigshot an eagle flew above me. My bag came up from below...eagle squawked and did a hard up and left wing roll! I came very close to hitting it. Whew...glad I missed. I bet that eagle had stories to tell!

My sightings occur on the ground. I was clearing some small trash trees from the slope at a friend's house and a big gray fox ambled right past me while I had a saw idling. He didn't seem the least bit concerned with me, which made me a little concerned about him. He came within maybe 30 ft of me.

Another time, I was clearing some damaged trees and a pair of nesting black vultures didn't budge while I felled a tree 12 ft from them. I ran a saw for about an hour pretty close to them, but they weren't leaving the nest at the cave entrance.

I had a baby flying squirrel jump out of home in the branch I was cutting above my head and float down to the ground. My groundy scooped him up and put him in a rope bag until we were done then we stuck him on the side of the tree and the mom came and bundled him up and went to a new hole.

I was rock climbing, and someone on the ground made a gasp as I moved up. When I looked down to see what the reaction was for, I see a flying squirrel darting for a tree. I had climbed over his home, and he was ready for me to no be so close to him. Also, they definitely look like flying napkins from above.
