Whoopie sling question

I was wondering if a whoopie sling can be used to block down wood with the block attached to it. I've never been told it could or couldn't but I've never seen anyone use it like this either for a knotless rigging set up. It's always used to attach a portawrap but never a block

I know that loopie slings are made for this application but why is it considered a better set up for blocking then a whoopie sling?

Any info is greatly appreciated

I've seen blocks attatched to them. I am a loopie guy myselft, just for the fact they take me 10 minutes to make, and I have probably 600' of tenex in 3 sizes hanging around.

For a given rope size, the loopie would be stronger. That's a pretty good reason given that the block anchor has to withstand loads potentially much greater than those the rope is going to see.

A Whoopie can certainly be used to block down wood. However, on larger diameters, I find them a bit difficult to adjust correctly. With a cow hitch or timber hitch I can get the block much closer to the spar with less time spent. Of course, if distance between spar and block is not an issue, then you can just leave the Whoopie long and save time that way. Know what I mean?

I have a pulley and krab set up on a Loopie for smaller diameter redirects while rigging... in this case I find they're easy to adjust.

thanks for the info guys, i would rather use a loopie sling but sometimes we get into larger wood and our loopie is a bit small (5/8) and i enjoy the luxuries of knotless rigging ( i have no idea how to tie a cow hitch and the timber hitch takes a while to tie when youve got 16 feet of tenex to mess with)

hopefully come march ill learn how to splice tenex loopie slings at the spring splicing symposium so i can save a buck or two and make it myself at multiple sizes

easy timber hitch,
1 put block in lap
2 grab rope left hand go around trunk
3 grab tail right hand follow rope back around trunk
4 the loop you now have in left hand twist 4 times
5 drop block through loop
6 cinch tight

Hope you understand and that it helps
