Whoopie Lanyard Adjuster

I tried your suggestion and finally got it to work but haven't got back to it yet to test. I first tried two brummels with 3 strands spacing between them but it had no effect after being pushed up the rope and loaded. Two strand spacing on the first brummel than three on the next is what I got to work.
I think the multiple brummels would work pretty much like the sleeve in that the majority of the load is seen at the bottom and then grabs when enough surface area and contraction are achieved.
N.e.Trees what ropes are you using?

An update on sleeve use. I am really liking the use of a sleeve because it works so effortlessly. Like anything new there is a learning curve on how easily it descends. Usually all that is needed is one finger slightly pushing on the top. A little more control is gained if the sleeve is held in the hand and used to keep the sleeve stretched while compressing the top. A brief accidental bump or touch of the top will make it descend, but instantly grabs again. This what I'm using, 3/8 tenex with eight inches of bury, and a half hitch on top.

These ropes don't work

Left to right is All Gear TVP 8mm, 1/2 inch Tenex, 1/2 Stable Braid cover, and 3/8 tREX.

Beeline cover, 5/16"on 8mm rope and 3/8" on 10 mm rope works also. I've used the 5/16" on a lanyard, works great in DdRT and SRT.

Have you tried doing something like this? This thing grabbed everytime just messing with it anchored to the wall. It was a bit touchy on the release though
Nice!

Had somthing like this set Up for tensioning tarps. Added a large key ring loop between the supporting rope and that last 'zag'. Made for quick tug'n'set!
Concept might apply here brother!!

I've not had a problem with it setting and grabbing, even using just a six inch bury, with no brummels, knots or other things to help it hold. The problem was the sleeve wouldn't fully extend which lead to a very sensitive release. The added length and half hitch makes the sleeve extend all the way so that it requires more effort to make it descend.
